Morning all! Thought I'd give an update on my boy.
So... He went to Andrew May's for a few weeks schooling and playing through obstacles.
He came home three weeks ago, and has had an attitude transplant! He's matured loads in his brain, is ready for proper work and is really trying so hard! The buck (well, handstand...) under saddle has only surfaced once, when I popped him over a ditch when he was wound up- and he decided that being told off then made to walk all the way up the steep hill afterwards was not much fun! So I'm hopeful that's all over and done with.
Took him to the beach by himself last week- he schooled like a pro, then enjoyed a good canter and a gallop or two
And we've started popping little fences too
His fan club is ever increasing, and he likes to take time out to chat with them after work
So then he went to his first driving trial this weekend- we did dressage and cones only, but stayed all weekend so he could get the hang of things! We're struggling with him over bending in harness at the moment, but there are plans in place to hopefully sort that out. So here he is!
Settling in
Ready for his stressage...!
Dressage-
And cones- where I messed up, went through 7 backwards instead of 11D (god knows how...!) and would therefore have been eliminated, but still managed to only get one down on a really twisty course!!! It would have been my best ever cones- and for his first time out I'm over the moon.
So we have 4 weeks hard fitness work to do before his first full trial- he's not far off, we're riding 18km in an hour and a half, he just needs to be a bit 'over fit' to manage the marathon and still have his brain working through the obstacles for his first couple of trials.
So that's us at the moment- safe to say I'm over the moon with him!
