Lumbar spine means lower back. Spasm is more easily sorted than other problems, I know, mine goes into spasm on a regular basis. You can get muscle relaxants (not sure if the UK sells them over the counter, but worth asking a chemist) and things like accupuncture and massage really help (I have a tame physio that is now used to me walking into the surgery in a cortorted position with the phrase - sort it out!) Not sure what you have done to start it all off - whether it's a fall or you over did something? Maybe you know what you have done, but if not the following may help - Spasm is often as a result of something skeletal (with me, I have too much mobility in some of my vertabrea (and other assorted problems) and it is when they move that my muscles go into spasm. A chiropractor may be able to help with that, but they can't do much until the muscles ease off a little - the muscles spasm to protect the spine - some chiros use an IR machine which helps release the spasm, as well as manual therapy.

Either way, don't damage yourself by riding if it isn't right - the BHS riding is what, 100 pounds? if that? Not worth damaging your back for, but you can try some of these methods over the next couple of days to see if it resolves the problem.

Go and see a chiropractor. My neck and back were agony, I could hardly get out of bed, now I feel so loose. Also I found out that my pelvis and shoulders were skint (not good for riding position) so she is adjusting me to sort it. I highly recommend it, for me it was like switching off the pain and I didn't realise how stiff and sore i was until it went.
Good luck

What a waste of time these doctors are! You need some physio on that and you would be rigth as rain in no time and not need to be signed off for 2 weeks!
