Right thought i would give you guys an update as i know a few of you wanted to see what the outcome was.
Well i got a 2nd opinion from my vet and she said he def doesn't have wobblers, yay! I knew the original vet bloke wasn't quite right as the horse could hardly put weight on his near hind so knew something was either wrong with that and that was it or he had wobblers plus that! My vet who came out a few days after the original man said he was in a lot of discomfort in his hoof on the near hind, his actual leg was fine but he had a very pink sole so she thinks it's a badly bruised foot,he is also a bit of a wimp! She advised me to get him shod which i did,the farrier also said he had a lot of bruising in that foot,he was sooo much better when he was shod but still lame on that leg, that was 3 weeks ago,the vet advised i leave him for 2 more weeks and then we will see if he is sound and if so we can then do a vetting, the only thing is he is sound at walk but is still lame at trot at the mo and 2 weeks is up next week,he has been lame for ages now so i'm not sure what to do from now,i have ridden him a handful of times since i got him months ago on trial,i have paid a deposit, the owner keeps perstering me to make a decision,i keep saying to her that at the mo i can't make any decision as he is lame!! My vet even rang to talk to her and explain that he is exempt from being insured also and that no one would buy him anyway as he won't pass a vetting! I said she is quite welcome to come pick him up if she can't wait. I know you are all prob thinking why the hell havn't i sent him back yet,the thing is i have really developed a strong bond with him and he is a lovely horse, great to ride when sound and is no trouble at all to have around,he isn't on for a lot of money but at the same time he is costing a fortune to keep,i have had 5 vet visits, drugs etc to pay for and have had him since early nov last year. I am going to pad his foot out and hoof boot it,am also going to bathe it in Epsom salts and he is also on Arnica tablets, anything else i can do to try and help him recover??? I know they can take ages to heal so am really at a loss as what to do,both parties are frustrated and we all want an outcome at some point!

The owner is being unreasonable expecting you to make a decision on a lame horse! You have had him for 3 months and he has been lame for most of that- alarm bells for me im afraid. However lovely he is, your bond, etc, you cant ride him if hes lame. If you want a companion, fine but if you want a riding horse start with a sound one- they can go lame sooner or later anyway!

If you want to give it a bit longer thats fine but i would advise not making a decision for a month after he comes sound to make sure it is just bruising and not more than one issue. If the owner wont wait, tough- tell her to come and get the horse.

Sometimes you have to be tough to save yourself more heartache in the future
