Update on neighbours puppy left all day

Poor little thing, we are new to puppy ownership, but thats no excuse for your neighbours sloppy husbandry. We actually bothered to research heavily into it beforehand and our lab pup is never left on her own for any more than 3 hours at a time. And we both work full time. Disguisting. I feel for you OP. If me I would be ringing RSPCA/dog wardens. It would be anonymous.
 
Not seen them over the weekend , saturday they were out most of the day so she was left again ,sunday i was out at a show but from what i gather from my daughter she was shut out of house but had garden to run about in, got shouted at for chewing some shoes , left today at 8 , food bowl was empty at 11, there's a very fine line between interfering and offering advice, because of the position of our house's it would be obvious who had made a complaint as no-one else would be able to notice what goes on ,
Does look skinny for a 9 week old pup and eye's are runny , suggesting maybe they have'nt wormed her as i did remind them . but this is only an assumption , tricky situation .
 
No your right it does'nt matter , my dog club has contacts with the local dog warden i will ask her advice on the situation .

Yes. There are covert ways of doing things without landing yourself in the proverbial ***** with your neighbours - afterall the OP has to live next door to these morons and who knows what they are capable of.

Good idea re your club friends, get them to do the deed. If your neighbour accuses you, then you can deny it truthfully.
 
Sorry, I know you have to live next to them, but if it was me i would report them. Surely thats better than the poor little thing killing itself eating something it shouldnt etc. There are times when you have to do whats best for the animal.

She will report them - with the assistance of an acquaintance without implicating herself. MI5 have nothing on me..................;)
 
Can you suggest a kennel with a run for her? I know its not ideal for a puppy but at least she wouldnt be able to chew anything harmful and have room to move around and go to the toilet. How on earth are they going to house train her if they are never there? I have working spaniels and they are all out in the kennel from a very early age.
 
Puppy now seems to dissapear during the day when they go to work , so i can only assume that they have seen sense and are either taking her to work or to someone who can look after her during the day, so good news i think :)
 
Some people are incredible! There's a woman a few hundred yards from my door who is another who seems to regard her animals as "things". I've just heard from my next door neighbour that she is away for three months but has someone coming in once a day to feed at least one dog and three ponies. She used to have several dogs. I saw one corpse being removed from the kennel but don't know what happened to the others. In 13 years, I have never seen these dogs out of the kennel, let alone out for a walk.

I have reported that to the SSPCA so at least they will be aware, though they will do nothing, they never do! Her few acres are infested with ragwort which I've seen the ponies nibbling and it is spreading to my property. WHW and DEFRA are also aware but, again, can apparently do nothing.

One day, when I was passing, I noticed one of the ponies had got a wire from her home made fence around it's leg. I did manage to untangle it before any damage was done, but at the time I wondered if I should have gone and got the camera. But you can't leave an animal like that, can you?

I'm afraid all that one can do is report it to the authorities so they do at least have a record and a possible witness if it goes to court. I'm afraid I have no hesitation in reporting these incidents. I'd feel worse if I hadn't and things got completely out of hand!
 
Ive not read through the whole thread, so someone may have mentioned this. Your neighbour has a responsibility as an owner, under the animal welfare act to: (and I quote!)......

For the purposes of this Act, an animal's needs shall be taken to include— .
(a)its need for a suitable environment, .
(b)its need for a suitable diet, .
(c)its need to be able to exhibit normal behaviour patterns, .
(d)any need it has to be housed with, or apart from, other animals, and .
(e)its need to be protected from pain, suffering, injury and disease

UK law tends to be a bit vague and it is left to the courts to decide on the meaning of statements like "a suitable environment" or "unnecessary suffering". That's the trouble. The welfare organisations just do not have the funds to take a case to court unless they have a very good chance of winning. Nothing in the above about leaving a puppy alone all day or going off for three months while someone pops around occasionally to make sure the animals are still alive!

Sometimes I am tempted to name and shame -- with a few graphic photographs/video, but then there would be accusations of invasion of privacy, harassment, defamation, etc. so all we can do is inform the authorities so they are at least aware of the situation.

We have 3 dogs and I work 11 till 4 i worry about them being left that long never mind a whole day makes me sad puppies are so much work as my little Teddy 9 weeks will have you know. So sorry for the puppy hope they will get sick as they sound the type of people who could and let the little pup have a loving home with people who understand
