Phew, finally getting around to doing this, as some of you know he arrived the same day that my Mare came down with suspected Lymphangitis & panic stations set in - within 24hrs of vet treatment my mares leg had returned to normal size and she was fully sound!!! Unbelievable - rode her yesterday morning & was keen & willing & back to her normal self....
So onto the new boy - poor thing didn't get much of my attention first couple of days due to my Mare but we cracked on & had a lesson on Thursday morning.
For anyone who hasn't read my previous posts I bought my mare last year as a 4yo after a 12 yr break due to fracturing my neck in a bad riding accident.... My Mare is my utter pride & joy - its been such a learning curve & journey together - slowly slowly is the best way with her & she is incredibly powerful jumping for such a small horse so its baby steps all the way.
So roll on two mths ago & I found my position to look for another .... initially was looking at ads of 16.2 warmbloods with jumps to die for but after a good heart to heart with my instructor she wanted me to look at something closer to the ground as said she always remembers me the first time I went back to riding and was on the RS ponyhorses I was fearless & would get the tricker ones.... So the hunt was on, tried one horse who I clicked with first time but not so much the second time trying ..... and out of the blue got a call from my instructor about a full up Connie who had been there, done that, jumps 1m 10 for fun so went off to meet him... LOVED him from the minute I saw him.
Tried him a couple of weeks ago, had him vetted & he arrived on Tuesday.
So had a lesson on Thursday on him & enjoyed every second of it once I relaxed - we we jumping happily over a small grid at the end of the lesson & for me that is huge - was jumping with a massive grin on my face.
Roll on today & am over the moon - flew solo & took him into the arena & warmed him up & then just cracked on & got jumping ( normally I would be making excuses not to lol or delaying it ) - did some skinnies, water tray & a bigger grid with a skinnie as the third part - MASSIVE confidence jumping him - he just takes you to a fence bang on stride...
Did it all on front of an " audience " lol - may not have been my finest riding BUT we did it...
He is exceptionally affectionate in the stable & is getting to know that I carry apples lol....
Bringing both of them XC Schooling tomorrow & cant wait - the new boy is going to do wonders all round for my confidence which in turn will do wonders for my Mare....
At end of session today we went for a hack down the road & there wasn't a bother on him!!! despite HUGE diggers & inconsiderate drivers who you ask to stop & keep driving ......
Sorry its a bit of a rambling post - wont have pics till tomorrow but below is a lovely collage that the girl I bought him from did up wishing me the best of luck with him.
So Ive done things backwards & got the youngster followed by the schoolmaster but thats how my life generally goes lol...
