I have had my new pony 2 months now. During this time she has been pretty difficult to tie up,tack up and very nappy.

She has been moved back to my field for the summer, she has been here just over a week and she actually seems so much happier. I am getting to spend so much more time with her, as I actually keep her in the garden during the day and put her back in the field (attached to the garden) during the night and when I'm not there.

As I said before in a previous thread on the journey over here (only about 40 min hack) she was very nappy but I fought it out and won. I hacked her out again on Monday and she was really very good. We only did a short route (building her up) but we navigated around metal barriers were roads are being diverted with out a prob. So I got cocky and thought we would slightly change the route home, down an alley through the corn fields. She wasn't sure so I trotted her on, of course she spooked, span and I almost went out the side door but hung on in there. So apart from that, all went well.

So a couple of photos of her adjusting to family life! And a couple of vids of my 6 and 7 year old daughters riding her off the lead rein for the first time! :D Also, yes she is being ridden in a head collar as I think she is why she doens't like being tacked up. She has never seen a dentist  and hates the bridle. So while waiting to see a dentist am riding in a headcollar (not on hacks though;)) But she is very responsive still, so am thinking about going bitless.

So am very pleased to be making more and more progress with my oldie!!

Thanks, we are making progress. Unfortunately my OH has just got back from being abroad and has put a stop to pony going in the garden!!! I am livid:mad:!!!!

Rafty my OH dislikes pony in the garden too. I only put them in when the ground is dry enough not to make hoofmarks (they're barefoot), and they do a fab job of strimming and mowing. They always eat grass as opposed to plants other than they're partial to the odd branch off the cherry tree (cherries included) but that saves getting the loppers out.

OH is on an Olympic contract and currently out 7 days a week,. He's only had to mow the front garden since the end of May so I'm saving him work.

Its been nice and dry here so she has been doing exactly what you said, just mowing the grass. She doesn't eat any other plants either, has not even tried to eat the vegetable garden!!! Plus, we have loads of lorries and tractors going past, so it's great to get her used to the busy road as we have to hack down it!!!

She seems very put out today, hanging head forlornly over gate looking into the garden at the girls and dogs playing!!!

When he goes away I will get her back in the garden!!! :p

She also seems to of settled so much better being with us all, and it greats for building a good relationship!!

Good progress.

I can just imagine the mayhem my two would cause in the garden. One would probably try and walk straight through the patio doors into the lounge. And what on earth would they make of the fish in their drinking water?
