Hi
I didn't see your first post re overdose, I did the same thing with my 6 month old foal. The vet had just been to the yard vacinating, so I phoned him and he said he would be fine. I also hadn't locked the syringe, it had been handed to me at the correct dose but not locked and I didn't check! He said he would need loads of it to be ill.
Glad yours is fine.x

LOL!! It's never fun spending the night in a stable.

Glad the little one is okay. Don't let sister worm him again....at least not with Equimax as the margin for error is small with this wormer.

Actually, Equimax is pretty safe where overdosage is concerned.

"A tolerance study performed in foals from 2 weeks of age with doses up to 5 times the recommended dosage showed no adverse reactions."

It would be very unlikely that you'd exceed 5 times the recommended dosage from one syringe - except perhaps in young, very small pony foals.

Obviously, overdosing should be avoided for a number of reasons!

That is not what is printed on my Equimax Dosage Instructions, which I typed out yesterday for the forum. 3X caused issues with both foals, horses and breeding mares. This foal was wormed over 3X the RD. I don't class 3X a high margin for error.

This is copied direct from the Product Information Sheet:

"5.9 Overdose

A tolerance study performed in foals from 2 weeks of age with doses up to 5 times the recommended dosage showed no adverse reactions.

Safety studies conducted with the veterinary medicinal product administered to mares at 3 times the recommended dosage at 14 day intervals during the whole gestation and lactation did not show any abortions, any adverse effects on the gestation, parturition and on the mares general health, nor any abnormalities on the foals.

Safety studies conducted with the veterinary medicinal product administered to stallions at 3 times the recommended dosage did not show any adverse effects in particular on the reproductive performances. "

American studies were a bit more 'extreme' - for example, in-foal mares treated at 3x the correct dose EVERY TWO WEEKS. That DID cause some problems - as you would expect. And foals 3-4 weeks were treated at 10x the correct dose - a few got the squits! That's pretty safe by ANY standards.
