well, i'm bein more confident round poppy now and her leading to and from the field has improved greatly, as has her catching. but i have come to the decision to try and find her a long term loan home as a project for a very experienced person. i feel so bad and i feel like i'm giving up on my wee highland, but i feel it is unfair on her at the moment that i cannot do anything with her and she is the one who is suffering

she has been and will be a great pony again i know she will. i really feel recently that i just don't hav the time money or facilities to bring her back up to what she used to be

do you think i am giving up or doing the right thing???

and myself and my mum have been talking about finding a nice safe horse that i can just hack out on and build my confidence up on again, do u think this is a good choice too??

You aren't going to like this....but I think you are doing the wrong thing.
I believe you should stick with Poppy and sort her out (with help from an experienced person or instructor, of course).
You will find when you get the 'nice safe horse' you'll find that after the honeymoon period you'll have the same problems with it...

In essence, you're asking someone to take on a pony who will cost alot to become a riding horse again (you said you havent the money to do it).I assume she still has foot problems that will require remedial farriery and vet treatment? Look at it from the loanees point of view, they take on a pony, spend x amount of money on it, and you could take it back at any time... people just won't do it.

I too think you should stick with her. If you cannot stick with her sell her on, because no-one will want to spend that amount of money on someone elses horse.

Not being funny but if you haven't got the time, money and facilities to keep Poppy how will you manage with something else - particularly the TB you posted about previously? Please think long and hard about getting another horse if you do let Poppy go - why not find someone who needs a sharer or work for rides instead? You have years of horse owning ahead of you so why not wait until you are more financially stable (s'cuse the pun) and are in a better position to own (none of that is meant to sound nasty by the way - just advise on what I have read so far in your posts).

i think i have worded the post badly, what i am meaning is i am very happy with what i have accomplished with poppy, but i think i have reached my limit and i don't think i am making anything better, so i was thinking it would be fairer for her to have the chance to be a proper pony again. and when i say time money or facilities i mean we don't have a riding school or anything and the places that do have good facilities are super expensive like £75 a week for diy livery, and by time i mean she needs to be ridden almost everyday and to be schooled etc, so working full time just now i wouldn't be able to get a horsebox and take her to a riding school all the time to use the facilities if you see what i mean?

her feet are better now so she just needs normal shoeing etc

i know i'm a really bad horse owner and trust me i feel it, but i can genually promise you poppy and becky are very happy ponies, i just feel someone with more experience of highlands could get alot of pleasure from her

the reason she would be for loan is that if anything went wrong with her or the loanee found the were struggling i would rather her come home than be past from pillar to post

i feel like such a bad person i really appreciate your comments tho!

ooo i read your ad on projest horse lol (i think) i really liked the look of her but i have had a bad loan experience in the past with paying out and its just gone. So i personally would prefer a hastle free loan if i decided to loan again you might find someone but i would suggest maybe finding someone to share or just exersize her. Good luck i hope it all gets sorted

I don't think you are a bad person/owner at all - I was just trying to find a way round your problems. Sometimes it's just not easy being a horse owner is it?!

I keep my horse at a nice yard but it doesn't have great schooling facilities either so I understand where you are coming from on that point. Obviously you must do what's right for you and for Poppy, it sounds like you have made your mind up - good luck!
