Just to update you all who kindly offered advice.
Beau has now been on Metacam for a week and the improvement is brilliant. She is so much freeer (is that a word?) and back to being bouncy. She can jump into the car without help and climb the stairs easily.
I am so pleased for her. Thank you all for your input.
