I don't know if you remember me posting about a sweaty patch on the quarter of my 4 year old mare?????????

I have had her checked by my man!!!! and he is almost certain it is nerve damage from an antibiotic injection in the rump (must have been before we bought her). If you look closely (very closely) you can actually see a perfectly round circle, which is very slightly raised. He said that the line of sweat follows the route of the nerve. He has advised lazer treatment to stimulate the blood supply to the area, and it should go away.

The lighter colour of the hair (when not sweaty) is apparently due to a lack of blood to the area.

Yes, I remember your post and a number of replies. Good on you for getting to the bottom of it. Very interesting that it was possibly caused by an injection.

If you put the tips of your index finger and thumb together, the circle that is created is about the same size. We missed it until my man pointed it out, so not visible unless you rummage through the hair. There is a clear difference in the hair colour though, the area is definitely lighter.

Near side of neck, I would say possibly an injection reaction too.

My mare has this too- on the left hand side of her neck, a few inches from the point where the neck meets the withers. I asked the vet about it as she will always sweat there before anywhere else on her body and he thought it was an injection site that had damaged a nerve and so couldn't regulate the temperature properly, hence why it sweats up very quickly.

Glad she's not alone! He wasn't worried at all about it, so that's good enough for me. It just looks silly when she gets this silly stripe of sweat so quickly!

My horse has this on this shoulder, seems to only sweat in the lorry, he doesnt sweat anywhere else. This year the colour of this coat has changes, he now has a ginger bit
