update on tb kicked in the face!

Vet came out this afternoon and thinks their is a hairline fracture there, There is already new bone growth to suggest this. The swelling around his jaw is gravity taking the swelling from the top if his nose. He is on a danilon and something like sulpherdioxide that is to be brushed onto his nose once a day for a week to try and reduce the size of the lump, It wont cause him any problems other than being cosmetically not very nice but this liquid stuff is supposed to reduced the amount of bone that forms over it so he doesnt get a huge lump! Hes just loving all the sympathy at the moment! ;-)

Oh poor boy! Are the vets going to x-ray to confirm the fracture or are they just treating it as if it is a fracture?

Aww, poor boy. I had a little 14.1hh on loan when i was 16 or so, he'd previously had a kick to the face out hunting - it must have been pretty horrific at the time as he was left with a pretty huge dent in his face/nose. Bless him though he was a fantastic little pony. I guess they're pretty resilient aren't they. Hope yours heals without leaving too much of a mark!

its just being treated as a fracture, he saids its nothing to be concerned about in his case, he is breathing well, eating and drinking fine. You can actually feel the indentation and where the bone is calasing (sp) over it. That would be all we would see on the x-ray, this happened tuesday so has had the best part of two days for new bone to already start forming. If the swelling and heat doesnt reduce then i will ask for it to be investigated further but i am expecting there to be a hard lump there. I will post another picture of it in a week or so as we should know by then how much of a lump their will be!

It will probably heal over in time. My mare had numerous operations on her face last year which resulted in a bone flap having to be opened several times. She looked like something out of a horror film when she came home from hospital, but today, all you can see is a tiny dent and some white hair. I think it makes her look even more beautiful.

Bought Rocco 2 years ago, and the dentist said he'd got 2 broken teeth upper jaw left handside and a enormous hook and he did eat very slowly to begin with and very skinny, but with regular treatment he's come on leaps and bounds, have him a regular snaffle, but not sure if something would be better for him, but not sure what.

We had one with a broken lower jaw after a kick, the hard lump he had has now gone and there is no sign of it ever having being broken.
