...Bottom line is, We still cant get it!!

I spent ages last night in the school trying and trying, I did the pole thing and he got a couple of times, but not much.
It got me really down, coz Im now worried theres something wrong with him. He's such a good horse, if he was in any sort of pain, he'd prob never let on!
Ive got a lesson with 4faulter tomorrow eve, so fingers crossed he can help! I watched Feta ride Arch aswell, and he looks fine, doesnt look stiff at all and is moving nicely.
I lunhged him Sat and the first couple of times I asked for canter, he was on the wrong leg!
Anymore suggestions greated appreciated.
Im taking him to have his saddles checked in a couple of weeks, but I dont think its that.

If he goes on the wrong leg on the lunge it would suggest a problem i.e. pulled muscle, rather than the way you are asking him.... I would get him checked out all over by a physio

get his back checked, its very easy for them to be out somewhere, and it will also tell you if your saddle is causing problems

Did you try it with inside of pole raised or a small jump with inside raised ,then he is encouraged to put outside fore down first on landing hence getting correct lead

I thought about trying that, but thenI was worried if there is some thing wrong I might make it worse!

So any suggestions on good physios please!

Does he canter with only one lead while out hacking or jumping

Erm, you got me there! Ive not hacked out for a while, so I cant remember what leg he favours, Ill try tonight and let you know.
And Ive not jumped for a couple of weeks. I popped him over one fence other week, but as I couldnt get him on the correct leg, I didnt do much more. The last time we competed was at Moulton College about 3 weeks ago and he was fine then.

I wouldn't worry too much, he is not gonna get it just in one session!!!

It took my old horse ages to get it and if i didn't ride her for a few days then we would go back 10 steps and i would end up banging my head against a brick wall.

Once he is more balanced then it will all click and fall into place.

Give him a bit more time and he will get the hang of it.

Oh and my old horse always used to go on the wrong leg on the lunge too and there was nothing wrong with her back as we had it checked but may be worth checking anyway.

Thanks Kelly1982, maybe its just lack of schooling recently due to the good weather. I worry coz he has been prossionally schooled and we have never had this problem before and did some xc at the start of May, and I wonder if he may of pulled something or put some thing out from that. Saying that, I think I would have noticed by b4
Think Ill see how I get on in my lesson tomorrow and report back.

Hey darlin!!

I agree with Kelly1982, if its because you havent schooled in a while then he isnt going to correct it in just one session. Also, i'd avoid trying and trying. If you get it right perhaps push forward the canter and keep it going for a bit, then finish and tell him he is a good boy. I really think it will come in time!

I didn't get the feel something was wrong, but it can't hurt to have him checked out.

It definitely can be your saddle & your position

When i first had my saddle, one of my horses (baby) was always on the wrong leg on one rein. However had the wow demo and they fixed it with a bit of lateral air and he has always been on the right leg ever since.

He could go on either leg, so got it wrong lungeing. However since the wow he has been on the right leg 99% of the time.

If its just on one rein /favoured leg then it could be him muscle/saddle upset etc. If it doesn't matter on rein then could be your position, work on trotting in cricles then when you go large in the corner make sure his bending to the inside, sit deep, using your inside leg to keep him forward and outside nudge behind the girth to ask him to put that leg down thus canter on right leg. Other ideas are cross pole jump, he should land in right leg in canter, or when he canters on wrong leg can direction so he is now cantering on right leg thus clicks this is more easy and balanced. Trouble comes on the lunge where there in no rider aids and with a balanced horse which is where i'm having trouble!
