Update on the Hogged Horse !

Firstly - many thanks to everyone who supported me yesterday and you came up with some pretty good ideas.

Brought my 3 in this am and left them snoozing and her ladyship did not look that bad - probably because my wonderful OH got me to change my mind set - saying she was rebelling against old age !

We have postponed the photographer and he is coming in sept - and my OH is coming up tomorrow to take some black and white shots and some yellow coloured ones ???? of her.

Anyway arrives at yard tonight to fine 3 immaculate stables, fully mucked out, perfect banks and not a shaving out of place on the walkway. All my buckets sparkling - and trust me with 3 horses i have many. Waters done - rugs sized and in weight order, bandages rolled, grooming kit cleaned, head collars oiled, ropes all wound and hung up - hay nets full of 2 sections of hay - and the best bit was the old girl bathed, and tail plaited, and hooves oiled - and a big sorry spelt out in carrots ! - which she had carried up on her bike (and cost her £4 !) I sobbed again.

According to a few of my yard friends the girl had been there since i left the yard at 7.20am working her row out to apologies for her error yesterday and many people joined in to help her as it was obvious how upset she was -

She sounds like a lovely girl (albeit one who could do with a few clipping lessons!)

I have so much respect for the way you have dealt with this, hope you and the old girl have a lovely summer.
 
Ahhh - I'm sorry to hear she got hogged - but she's still your old girl at the end of the day and nothing will change that.

Girl sounds like a real sweetheart - there aren't many that would make a mistake like that and then put so much effort into trying to make it right again. What she has done sounds really lovely and she's obviously genuinely sorry - at the end of the day I guess we're all human!

Enjoy the summer with your old girl and by September her mane should have grown out enough to make it look, well, mane like :-)
 
I wasn't on last night, so have just been to read the thread.

I must confess, it made me laugh :o, not the fact that she was hogged, just that you couldn't make it up :eek:;).

I felt a little better when I got to the end and you said you'd laugh about it one day.

That poor girl, she must've been mortified when it happened. I bet she won't be front of the 'volunteer here for clipping' line :o.

I happen to love hogged manes but I would've been upset/cross about the forelock being whipped off also.

I hope it grows back soon and you get some lovely photos of her.
 
Just caught up with all this. Sorry for whats happened to your mare, just one of those things that has to happen to someone.
I do really feel for the girl. Bless her. By the sounds of it, I am going to put a bet on that one day, she will be one of those top grooms that you just can't go without. After all, you can't get to the top without making mistakes. She will be a wealth of experience and a nice person with it!!

Also, your mare might feel like a different 'new' lady with a new hair do!
 
Thanks you lot - i hope she does make it to the top, she has guts, determination and is honarable - a triat missing from many these days - she is also very hard working but is a little head strong. anyway - have offered her a lesson on my school master tomorrow- which hardly anyone gets to ride - as away to show her she is forgiven - he is a quirky sod and if i shouted bronk her off - he would! - and you think i am joking - one of my friends was riding him and i shouted - canter - and my friend whom was a very very good rider had NO control whatso ever - he actually said it was the first time he has been scared on a horse!

Back to the old lady - whom looked so pleased with herself tonight - clipped yesterday, bathed and plaited today - she will be putting herself on the horse box in the morning and wanting to know where we are going to play !
 
I'm so glad your the forgiving type as it sounds like the girl was incredibly sweet and her actions show how sorry she was, she'll never make the same mistake again and I suspect the YO will learn their lesson in leaving pupils unsupervised :)

Hogged manes are cool - my horse has one too ;)
 
What a fantastic end to a difficult story :) The girl from the yard sounds to be a real star, how refreshing to hear of someone who not only acknowledges getting something wrong, but then works like stink to make reparation, all off her own bat. :) Hang on to this kid for as long as poss. Sorry to hear about the old girl, we have been there and will be there again, possibly quite soon, and it is so hard.
