update on the horse that bolted 5 miles

Wow - i am actually quite touched that a) people would remember us and b) were wondering how we were getting on. thats so very sweet of you all.

In a way even though he should have gone back, ive kind of realised while he would feel safe, he would be wasted there and doesnt seem fair. Im sure someone else could do even better with him than i have so far, because time is such an issue for me right now. but hes stuck with me and vice versa so trying to make the best of it!

Well done you! Patience can move mountains, it doesn't matter how little time you have, you are obviously being very consistent with him, and are seeing the results. You do realise that he will get completely under your skin............!

Really good to get your update..you are doing so well, he is so lucky! You have come a long way already, and will have the great reward of a very strong bond and be inseperable..years of pleasure ahead. Please keep posting, and don't worry about any minor setbacks!

I'll just be happy enough with bringing him on to the point where he is a happy and confident horse who doesnt see the need to gallop across half the county if he gets a fright ;) Ive not bought him for keeps, but hes staying where is he is for a while ;)

From the despair in your first post to reading this you should be so proud that you have given him a chance and with patience and love your relationship is working. One day at a time! Well done!

I'm so glade things are going well, there was a lot of comments from people on the first thread saying PTS , which seems to be a lot of people's answers on here. I wrote at the time that my horse done the same and actually run back to his old home but once settled which took a few months was fine. Do keep in mind if u sell him in the spring he could go stright back to square one again

Yes i am aware of that. I would sell him on with full disclosure of what he did. But while hes here i do aim in the new year to have a few small outings so he gets used to leaving home, even if just for a day schooling at a friends or a small local comp and i would hope that would help. I think there were more people say dont PTS then do, and at the end of the day it was my decision alone, and i just decided to take each day as it came.

I think you made the right decision and you are doing this horse proud and he will be so grateful and will show it one day when he trusts you which he will
