so i took him to the vets to see if he has been chipped,
he has... his name wasnt Benny after all but Nanook!
the registered owner had rehomed him and gave us the number to the new owner.... then new owner said she had sold him to someone but had no contact details!!

so i gave this info to the police who then phoned dog warden to ask if any reports of a lost dog had come in.... one had!!

so we called suspected owner who confirmed this was his dog, so an hour later suspected owner knocks on door..... "no thats not my dog" he says!!!

what a day! so i still have ( lovely ) Nanook with me! (yay!! i think im falling in love with him)

YAAAAAAYYYYY!!!!!

So pleased for you, it must be a real tonic after losing Ellie x

Look forward to the piccies, here's hoping he finds something more permanent with you.

Sounds like the poor lad has been moved on a few times in his life:( Did the vet give you any idea how old he is? I missed your other thread, has it been suggested you put his details on Dog Lost. If you are beginning to fall for him maybe we should be hoping his owners either don't turn up or don't want him any more.;)

sounds like suspected owner may be the owner but doesn't want the dog back.Although as he came out to see the dog and really thought it was him from the conversation you had and he was there in an hour suggests he really did think it was him.If he was genuinely wanting his dog back and it wasn't Nanook then he must be really upset at having thought he was about to be reunited with him only to find a different dog when he got there.
You have done all you can to find out who he belongs to so if no owner has been found and one doesn't come forward soon it looks like Nanook may be with you for keeps.

well the man said he was a security dog... but u can tell he just isnt!, and when he saw him he said theres no way his dog would let u hold him. defo not his dog.
felt very bad for him as he'd just driven an hour to see him.

he's certainly a looker. Maybe the dog has decided he likes being with you and because he has become a house dog the security person didn't want him back so just said it wasn't his dog.

He is a handsome fella! Nice age to settle into a new home too :D

I think you have done plenty to try and reunite him with previous owners. Sounds like he's been passed around a lot for a youngster - keep him keep him keep him keep him keep him!

P.s: keep him!

He's looks a sweetie, and another grey, CC will be pleased. Just a thought, I wonder if his original owner sold him on because his ears haven't gone up, people can be quite shallow sometimes :( If the didn't react when he saw the possible owner then I would say he isn't his dog, not that he didn't want him anymore.

there was no reaction like he knew the man, not even a tail wag.

he is a sweetie! i think OH is slowly coming round to the idea of him staying!! we've got untill Thursday to decide!

i think the old owners were more put off by his size, the pics dont really show it, but hes HUGE!!! i hope hes done all his growing! lol

do u think hes full german shep?

Its possible K, some people seem to have a real issue with GSDs whose ears don't go up. I bred one, concidentally a sable too, he was a huge bear of a dog but ears like a labrador. I offered to replace him but luckily his nice owners loved him despite his ears, but they said most people refused to believe he was a purebred and some were quite nasty about him.:( I did give them virtually all the purchase price back by the way , nowadays I could probably have charged twice as much by calling him a shepador or similar.:p
