Update on the neglected 'vomiting' horse

[ QUOTE ]
Steel her and hide her away!!! Make her all better and make her feel like an animal again. Oh god i bet she would be crying loads if horses could cry poor little thing.

I would definatly not let lie on this one. I know its not your place to do so but i would do everything in your power to make sure some proper action is taken against these horrible excuses for human beings!!!

Check she's not identichipped first though

Bl@@dy people, I remember when you first posted about this horse, it's quite shocking

i know, a potentialy stupid idea but I was just saying what I might do, I dont think worming it or putting a rug is any worse than the horse "disappearing through the night" surely that is breaking the law by stealing

TBH I'm totally gob-smacked.

the field officers from the ILPH are damn good at their job...

just can't get my head around wht mollymurphy ha said...

This is the second time it's happened to her though - which leaves me feeling pretty despondent if I'm honest.

I'm staggered that nothing has been done about this poor little horse. I'd have expected that response from the RSPCA, but would certainly have had more faith in the ILPH.... the inspector needs reporting to his superiors, not least for telling YOU to keep an eye on it, for flip sake, that's what HE's there for
mad.gif

I'd do what some others have said and contact BHS welfare.

It's a flipping sorry state of affairs when a 'certain community' are allowed to become above the law and be left to treat their animals in any way they choose, because the public and the authorities we rely upon are too scared and intimidated to act
mad.gif

Good on you for trying to help her.

i'm off to find who her area field officer is on their website........

also MM....do you know who your BHS area welfare officer is??

try him/her.....they are pretty good with travellers...well in our part of the world..worth a try.............

Just about sums this whole country up doesn't it?? The police are supposed to protect us and don't so why should the ILPH protect horses??!

Sorry... lets not start that.
But I'm in the shoot the gypsy's camp!

To those suggesting MM steals the mare your either brave or stupid....

I feel deeply sorry for this mare but Molly Murphy putting her life/ that of her family in danger is just silly. The gypsies are not law abiding and take being stolen from seriously..... (ironic I know
smirk.gif
) Not forgetting that she would be breaking the law, albiet with the best intentions...

I have found the BHS very good but think they will only intervene where something like this is happening in a BHS registered place.

Sophie they will go and advise ANY horse owner not just BHS members.

ah...i know they are useless BUT.....bear with me here...

this could become a great story for the RSPCA, though...they could act on the new "welfare" law...they HAVE to be seen to be doing something and involve the police too.

also contact DEFRA as the above law is also enforced by them.

Yep, and I'm pitched next to you.

Of course it wouldn't be right to just remove the horse, or worm it, or do anything that could make the OP liable in the event of something going wrong. To suggest that is just silly.

However, I can tell you how we (as Horsewatch) dealt with a similar incident. We found 4 horses, 2 mares and 2 youngsters, abandoned in a field with no water supply, poor grazing and out in wet weather in stable rugs. Tyre marks suggested they had got there by trailer. We found the land owner, he had not given permission for them to be there, did not wish to have any liability for them and recognised that if he allowed them to stay and something went wrong, that he could have a problem.
WITH THE LANDOWNERS PERMISSION we moved them to an undisclosed location. We reported them to the Police as found property, and left the found property register number on the gate so the horse owners could call the Police if they wanted their horses back.
We paid a professional, licenced, insured transporter to move them (we had to cover ourselves against any injury), they were seen by a vet on arrival at their undisclosed location, which again was a professional yard with insurance cover.

After 3 days the owner made contact, the vet was satisfied that they were poor, but not at the neglect stage yet so the owner was allowed to collect the horses at a staging post, so they never knew where they had been. They also had to pay the costs of the transport and livery in cash before they got their horses back.

Do you know, those particular 'travellers' haven't dared to dump a horse on a field in our area since.

It can be done, but you have to do it the right way

1st of all please dont shoot me down.... i sed to work for the rspca, the big problem with the inspecters is that many of them go to work at the rspca with a love of animals but actually know nothing where larger animals ie horses are conserned many of them have neve been near one so they cannot judge, staff are sent to a place in bristol for a couple of days where of course all the horses are fit and healthy, bear this in mind

before shouting the press is a good way or contact the rspca again and explain what yr opinion is, the other options is the blue cross or do you have any other charites rescue centres around you?? the police wont rush to do anything although they do have to at least go and look.

dont give up on the horse, there is far too much abuse towards these intelligent beautiful animals. if it was a dog barking next door it would be sorted out the next day!

i totally agree there way of dealing with animals is wrong beyond debate, i noticed re reading the post it was the ilph that went out??? i did then go and look at the picture of the horse again that poor thing!!! think id call the police and exagerate just so they went out!

contact the rspca again

The OP contacted the ILPH - who, it would seem, are as about as usefull as a chocolate tea pot.

[ QUOTE ]

The Police wont do any thing either, they are useless aswell.

[/ QUOTE ]

Possibly, in fairy land.

In other places, Oxfordshire for example, they do joint prosecutions and investigations with the RSPCA and people DO get convicted for cruelty offences

Contact the ILPH and ask for the name of their PR person...then tell them you are going to go to the local and national press with stories and pictures of this poor horse...and want to get all the ILPH details accurate
wink.gif

I'll bet they look again...as they HATE negative publicity when they are reliant on public funding.

Phew...just caught up with all of this! Thank you all for your support. I refuse to let this one go. I still blame them for the death of the filly foal a few months ago - i refuse to watch this one die too.

I've emailed 3 different parts of the ILPH - sent all the pics too. And i'll get back in touch with the BHS to tell them what's happened - they said to wait and see what the ILPH did.

Off to the farm now - mine will probably be sulking by the gate! Thank you again!

Oh, and Carthorse - as for being fearless, it's scary stuff but someone's gotta do it!
