Well, it seems that Saff has been bitten by something ( bug or snake?!!) just by her left udder and is having an allergic reaction. There's a biggish swelling which I will be monitoring. ..if it moves along her tummy or gets bigger, the vet will be needed again and blood tests will be done to check liver function etc but he is sure it will all resolve by itself and he's an extremely experienced equine specialist so I trust his diagnosis.There is nothing at all to indicate laminitis. She does not have a temperature and heart/feet and eyes themselves are totally OK. The warmth this am means nothing...there is no throbbing digital pulse. His top tip re the swelling round her eyes was to bathe in a weak solution of bicarbonate of soda. I'm keeping her in tonight because of the wild weather.She certainly has no problems with her appetite! I think she'd have to be 100% deceased to even consider stopping eating!
