Hi guys, I haven't been on here for a while but thought I'd update you on my pony.

He has always been very strong and pulls in the school when ridden (although is a dream to hack) I have been riding him in a gag but was recommended to try a Waterford. That went down like a lead balloon and he bolted at the first sign of contact. That's when I decided to get the wolf tooth removed (I knew it was there as the dentist told me when I first bought Benji, but as it was small he suggested to see how it went)

So the tooth was removed without a problem and it was very smooth. Dentist said the smoothness would be caused by the bit rubbing against it.

Anyway, that was a couple of weeks ago and I had my first ride on him last night, which also happened to be our first ever lesson.

My instructor put us straight into an eggbutt snaffle and put us on the lunge. He was so much better! Very relaxed in his mouth and neck, still a little strong but nothing like he was before and not pulling. He was trotting out beautifully and we even managed a lovely controlled canter! Then she let us loose and we did half an hour of trotting and worked on bending, circles and relaxing.

I guess part of it was down to the lesson, but there was definitely an improvement in his mouth. He also tended to head shake a little and evade the bit by opening his mouth but he did none of these things in our lesson.

Whether its the tooth removal or bit change I do not know, but if I can ride my Haffy tank and school in a snaffle without having my arms pulled off, I am a happy bunny :D

Token picture of the grumpy man himself :D

I feel so much better. I am even considering doing a ridden class at the next show. I normally only do in hand as he's so strong. x
