Hi All,

Thought it might be nice to update you after my boy did his suspensory ligament in 3 months ago. I opted straight for the operation nuerectomy fasciotomy (sp). He had 2 weeks solid box rest - then 2 weeks in a small pen (was supposed to be 4) but he was getting way too stressed out so went out as normal even all night sometimes as he had too much energy and was going to do himself damage the way he was getting stressed.

Anyway 2 months on went up the vets for his check up on Friday and got the all clear to get back on and start building him up slowly over the next 4-6 weeks. Vet was so pleased lunged on both reins and she said he looked fab.

Can anyone reccomend a training programme for the next 4-6 weeks. He is a 16.3 TBXWB. He is very good to ride and not fizzy. We only have busy lanes where I am stabled so would prefer not to do roadwork yet. Have farmers fields and flat fields and a good (not deep) sandschool to ride in.

Also any boots or bandages I should use and when?

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

:)

Walk and lots off it, farm tracks would be better than the school but occasional school work.
I was told start at 15 mins and add 5 mins per week until we were at 30 mins walk work by week 4.
Then add in 5 mins trot work, but not 5 mins solid more like 5 x 1 min trots.
The add 5 mins trot work per week until we were at week 8 and walking 30 mins and trotting 20 mins (again not 20 mins solid trot).
Then it was recheck time to see if we were OK to start canter.

Thanks for your reply.

Interesting that you say there was a further check up after 8 weeks of work. This has not been mentioned at all by my vet. She just said build him up slowly over the next 4-6 weeks and then he should be good to return to full work slowly.

did yours have the surgery?

Do you use any boots or bandages for support?
