Just a quick update for you all on a TB I got out of racing last yer. He came to me very lean with bad feet and a bit of a leg.

I turned him away and struggled to keep weight on him through summer despite feeding 3 times a day. He then went on and off lame ( I thought he might have gravel but farrier said def not) and I took him to the vet who said "I've known this horse since he was two, the best thing you can do is shoot him"

I decided to give him the rest of the summer so he had a good last summer and then have him put to sleep ( he is the loveliest boy)

3 days after seeing the vet he couldn't put his foot down. I rang the farrier who was on holiday and sent a farrier friend of his and he had...................gravel!!!! I was fuming.

anywho I just wanted to tell you all I now have a completely sound horse...yay who has put oodles of weight on and is a joy to have on the yard. I'm so chuffed with and for him I thought I'd share it.

I'll post before and after pics tomorrow x

YAY :D :D :D
Well done you for not giving up on him. I hope you have many many fun filled years with him. He is one lucky boy he ended up with you. :)

well done to ou and am pleased it all worked out for you ! could you tell me what gravel is ???

It's an infection in the foot. He is very flat footed and I suspected it from the start and asked and asked the farrier.....................

He's also a fab hack yay and nanny's my baby horses like a pro

yay for you!! i got my tb straight from racing (was told he'd had 6 months off which was **** as i found out when i looked him up on racing post!!!) It's been a long old slog, he had awful feet but luckily he's pretty good in conformation- vet actually asked if he was full tb cuz his feet are not flat!!) he then got celulitus and i nearly lost him, now trying to put topline on him and can't ride him yet cuz of his back needing 'some cushioning' but fingers crossed we'll get there and he's come on in leaps and bounds!! good luck hon I'm so pleased he's been sorted out!! xx

wow that is amazing glad you found a solution somtimes showes vet and farriers arnt always right :) have fun hacking and keep us updated :)
