Update regarding omeprazole thread

For those interested and perhaps struggling with a horse with gastric ulcers, my livery client received the ab-guard in syringe form from Abler and it is exactly the same as gastroguard so must be made by the same people. Exactly the same shade of pale orange and same flavour/smell. So the question is why is it many times more expensive in the UK? :confused:
 
Because the people that make GG are the only company that can supply the drug in the UK, so they can charge what they want.
 
She's been on it a week so far and she is loads better already. Exactly the same as when she's had the gastroguard. I think her owner is going to order her some of the sachets too, for when she finishes on the syringes, to put her on a much lower maintenance dose.

I wonder how many horses have been PTS because their owners cannot afford to treat the ulcers in this country. :(
 
because only one company was prepared to do the trials (and spend the significant amount of money required) in this country to get the licence. I'm not really surprised that they then wish to get some of the money spent back...
 
That's a rosier view of Big Pharma than I have. It is my vet's view that Merial got the patent for one of the ingredients of Gastrogard that allows it to be made into a horse-friendly paste form. Then, the primary purpose of Big Pharma being to make A LOT of money and keeping their execs and shareholders sweet (and in their yachts and Lear jets), charge a ridiculous amount of money for the drug. They've got the market for it cornered and horse owners who need it will fork out the stupid amounts of money needed to sort their horse out. Ain't capitalism grand.
 
See I still want big pharma to have significant funds regardless of the execs and shareholders because without them putting the in the research for all manner of things (diagnostics etc too) we're a bit stuck.
 
I cant believe the price. My mare had gg last year on insurance. 800 for a month for a pony :/ sickening prices.

Does anyone know if the granules are any less affective?
