I have just had my hubby let me know that the racehorse who went missing on the army ranges in Lydd was found dead in a ditch several days ago. It was one of my hubby's workmates who found it while he was clearing weed from one of the camps ditches.

he aparantly unseated his rider back in January or this year at Camber sands and went running off into the army ranges. Despite extensive searches on foot and by air he was never seen and it was just strange. When he disappeared it was snowing and I suspect he probably slipped into a ditch and was unable to climb out.I guess as it was snowing it covered up his tracks and the ranges are a huge area to search.

So sad but at least we kow the outcome.(Why didn't they use heat seeking cameras o the helicopters when they were searching in the begining?)

if my memory serves me correctly the MOD refused to allow any search of the area for several days and only allowed the helicopter searches some weeks later so even if heat seeking devices were used they would not have showed up if the horse was already dead sadly.

Poor horse :(

I remember this story. The MOD were in the wrong for not allowing a full search in the first place even if they had to do it themselves.

I hope the horse didn't suffer for long.

horrible for the horses owners especially as they spent ages searching and not knowing what happened. I hope the horse didn't suffer too. I would suspect as there was snow and ice around when it happened that it probably happened fairly soon after the horse disappeared.

Oh poor thing :( Suprised no one heard it crying out when they were searching ( if it was of course) But as you say it must be a huge area to search.

Rest in peace horse.

If someone is in there now clearing ditches why wasn't anyone allowed in back in Jan to search?!

Poor horse - lets hope he didn't suffer to much :(

for them to go in in the first place they have to have authority granted by the MOD which takes ages to go through then there is numerous training and inductions to be done before they are allowed in.Once in they are given one week to get it all done which given the vast area is no easy task. Those who drive a machine on the beach at some times of the year behind the ranges and have to have special permission and aren't even allowed to get off the machine to go to the toilet due to the risk of unexploded shells etc.
