Upright infront?

Not really, just the usual things such as be careful about the ground you work on, and good farriery.
I dont know what kind of workload your horses have, but sore shins is also a worry for these types of horses in hard work. If that happens only thing to do is give them 3 months field rest - once they have had them they dont tend to come back.

Thanks so much

It's a friend horse tbh, keeps going intermittently lame and it looks to me to be from his shoulders.

He's very upright infront, and is reluctant to step out on a hack.

Farriery wise, he has very contracted frogs/heels and so they've just had his shoes taken off.

When he has gone lame it has usually been in the school.

What would your advice be re the farriery/type of work? The owners havent' had him very long and so don't do alot, are just trying to get to know him.

This is more for my interest really. I'm not sure I'd pass any advice onto them, as I don't want to interfere.

Im not sure id be keen to take the shoes off this type of horse.
Perhaps the lameness is foot related? Footsoreness can sometimes be very similar to a jarry shoulder.
I dont know what to suggest really, working in straight lines would be the obvious step (ie not on a circle), but then if he wont step out on a hack thats going to be difficult.
Perhaps a full vet/dentist check is in order, and an easy time. Sometimes withm this sort of horse they get into the mindset they are sore, and so dont use themselves enough to loosen up.
If they got everything checked and sorted id be inclined to say x1 bute a day, and long walk hacks with a tiny bit of trotting towards the end.

Hmm, yeah I'm inclined to agree re the mindset thing! He's even a bit strange about going out in the morning, sometimes plants his feet!

Would you go for heartbars or the likes to help with the contracted heels/frogs rather than barefoot? (would just add he does have boots for hacking out in)
