Upside down rubber matting

Right... About to take out my mats for a good scrub and wondering if anyone has turned their bobbled matting upside down? The (supposedly) anti slip matting with the blinking bobbles is an absolute pain in the butt to sweep clean. If there is anything damp; poo feed or the random miss-aimed pee everything gets spread around and trapped between the bobbles
Now, on the other side there are long grooves which are really for drainage but look like my friends mats which are easier to sweep....
Will the bobbles reduce drainage ( drainage ain't that good In my stable) or will it just damage them? Anyone with any experience if this?
 
Me I turned my onto the other side fo rthe same reason and it's the best thing I've done in a long while! :D

I have a trampy TB who was a pain to muck out, now I sweep down the grooves and it's done in a jiffy, I haven't noticed any drainage issues as they cover all bar a small channel of his stable (have 6 mats).
 
Yes, I have. Put them down last week and found that pony was getting a little foot sore on the bobbles, (he doesnt wear shoes) so turned it over, and its fine.
 
My horse slipped on mats someone had accidentally put in upside down so they were immediately turned over. I've heard of other horses slipping on them when they got wet.
 
Ooo not so good. .. Although when the top side gets damp from condensation drips it can be a bit slippy. .. Between a hard rock and a wall me thinks - cant afford to mat out a 25 x 18 stable again!
 
Bobbles up for me I'm afraid, it may not be perfectly swept but I'd rather my mare stay on her feet and not slide about on wet shiney flooring and anyway, a witches broom does a very good job.
 
After yesterday's mamouth scrub- the bobbles being the hardest part to scrub , I'm beginning to think upside down is better. Wasn't brave enough to actually do it and after struggling on my own to get them Out and back in I may wait till the OH is off nights and can help.
Also a tip for anyone cleaning these retched mats - use a power hose! I spent ages scrubbing with a stiff broom and they look worse than when I took them out!

I think upside down would get on my nerves more that bobbles up, I have the soft cheaper black version of the green equimats the ones that lock together, except cos mine are the cheap version they don't lock, at the time I was thinking of his arthritis so had softer ones
 
One of our liveries requested this when we first built the stables, so we did it in her stable. I found it really really slippery, and although easy to sweep to the front of the stable, it was hard to then sweep it along and out of the door, as it was against the grain, so to speak. When she left we whipped them back over PDQ!

Our mats are about 4-5 years old, and the bobbles have worn down a lot, so you hardly notice them - especially in my mare's stable as she scrapes at feedtime!
