upside down tail plait

Practise, practise and more practise, keep the plait close to the tail so that the sides don't go baggy. Use your thumbs to keep hairs in place. Some tails are just horribly spikey.

I've found the best tail plaits are ones that I do the day before, leave in and then undo and redo on the morning, seems to be something to do with making the hair wavy - it seems to stay together better with the second braid.

I damp the tail and then spray with hair spray as it makes it sticky and easier to keep the hairs together better. Make sure that you have combed out the tail really well before starting so that there are no tangles, don't use conditioner, and only take a few hairs from under the tail with each plait.

Doesnt matter whether I do a normal one or an 'upside down one' they're slightly messy and not straight. Need more practice. But I CAN do it
I have a friend that can ONLY do it upside down, ask her to do a normal one and she gets all muddled up

I'm the opposite. I used to be a flight attendant (many years ago) and the trend then for us was for upside down plaits. I used to practice on my horse and then once I had that down pat I would go home and practice on my own hair.
Rather than lifting your hands up and over and with a normal plait go down and under. If you find you cant get your head around it then one thing I tried was to stand with my back up against my horse's behind, so facing away from him, flip the tail over my shoulder and plait towards myself. Once I got the hang of it then I could standing behind him facing him and plait under easily.
For me the secret to getting it neat is wet the tail with a spray bottle as you go, use moose, gel or hairspray to stop the flyways and comb each handful before you plait it in.
It does take lots of practice, but once you get the knack of it it's easy.
Have fun! :p
