Urdd tack cleaner advice please

I've got a pair of Sarn Hip boots and a friend has been very kindly cleaning them for me using Urdd. It was fine when they were new but now they have built up a big layer on the top which smudges etc and looks tatty.
Has anyone got any idea how I can remove all this muck and have my boots back? Tack cleaner/hot water and soap????
I remember now when I bought them being adviced not to use this stuff. Hope it's not too late

I use it on my tack not my boots (thinks you can get loads of different ones) but think step 1 of Carr Martin and Day works if i remember correctly

Warm water with a drop of washing up liquid or as H said the Car Day Martin No1 tack cleaner will get it off
