I used the NAF with Deet but did a test patch to start with. He had a severe reaction resulting in skin scabbing over and then peeling off. I just wondered if anyone has advice on how to treat them.

Call your vet asap for advice!

Well done for doing test patch first, many others wouldn't have!

Your vet may want to do either antihistamines or some other steroids to calm down the irritation

Good luck

There was a post about this couple of days ago, I used this on my boy did the patch test like you all looked well, then after couple of days using it his skin started to peel, I just gave him a good wash and its healed now. There has been alot of this reaction .

wash with plain water - lots of it then don't put anything else on. If it gets worse then contact the vets but otherwise leave to heal and don't use said product again :p

I posted about using it on mine a few days ago. His skin is back to normal now where it peeled off.

Rcently at the yard another livery had a big bottle of this. She had stored as directed but came in one day to find the contents had melted the bottle, some leather riding gloves, and the plastic tips on a hoof pick, a whip and a body brush. Seriously think there is a bad batch about!!!!!!

Deet itself is very powerful, esp in higher concentrations. I used it a lot on myself when I lived in the tropics...and melted a watch and a camera with the stuff by accident, I stopped using it after that!
