Have just had a phone call from the mother-in-law who lives in Reddish, Stockport, who says there is a horse wandering about right now in the playing fields behind her house - Harcourt Street playing fields, North Reddish, Stockport SK5. MIL is not horsey and doesn't know what to do - we believe it to be a pony, and piebald. Is there anyone there who is nearby and can check this out for her/us please? Or any local 24 hour contact numbers please?

Thanks, Faro

Ring the police. If the pony wanders onto the road in the current icy conditions, there could be a disaster. Sorry can't offer any practical help, I'm too far away, even tho' I'm nearer than you!

Apparently MIL has tried calling the non-emergency line for Greater Manchester police and has been told its a 20 minute hold time for non-emergency calls. We're not certain whether this really warrants a 999 call, as the police have probably got a hell of a lot on their plate with the weather conditions.

Have found a number for Reddish Vale Farm Riding Stables and left an answerphone message for them, just in case they get there in the morning to discover one of theirs has escaped.

Am going off line now as have been up since 5am. If I get any more news I will report back tomorrow. Meanwhile, if anyone does get word of anyone missing a horse in the Reddish area, please let them know that it was seen in Harcourt Street playing fields.

Goodnight.

please update me on this, have fb'd everyone i know in manc/stockport area... unfortunatly i am snowed in at home or i'd go down and check myself, as am only 45 mins away....am keeping an eye out to see if nuala is online as she's in the manchester area, will ask her to go check if she comes online xx

Thanks for doing that Nobodyknowstori.

No news overnight.

It's far too early for me to think of calling MIL yet! (I know what an earful I'd get!).

I'm off to work shortly but will be checking back in here as often as I can.

Faro - it really is worth calling 999 - I found a loose horse on a relatively main road a few weeks ago and rang 999. When the police arrived they thanked me and told me it was the right thing to do in case it caused an accident.

I hope all was resolved.

If my mother was home we could probably just drive down there! I used to ride at Reddish Vale, know that they did have a few coloureds but couldn't say much more, haven't been down there for a while!

Fingers crossed that it turns out ok...
