Urgent- Best insurance company?

Thanks everyone we were looking at NFU- by any chance have any of you ever had to make a claim because of the death of a horse, if so how did it go?

ETS: Also looking at KBIS any experiences with this?

All our ins is with NFU and I always find them helpful, they have a local office and I sort all our business over the phone. We have never claimed though.

Maisemore office - 01452 382272.

Thank you. It says you can't ring after 12:30 on a saturday.
I would like to know how people's claims has gone with them though before we ring as this is the reason we are moving.

I have mine arranged through equestrian world insurance services, laura is very helpful, got me a really competitive policy that was flexible with the excess I wanted etc. Whats-more they've been paying out on a vets fees claim this past year with no problem.

I'm not sure what your individual situation is but with regard to death of the horse if it was euthanased you either need the inurance companies approval first or the vet saying that for welfare reasons euthanasia cannot wait until the insurance company is open again. Otherwise they can be akward.

South Essex are my favourite as they put less exclusions than most

depends what you want here is the difference

NFU pay only half of an MRI scan so you need £500

South E pay all of it

However

NFU pay half of stabling costs at horsepital and SE don't

NFU used to also cover transport costs to horsepital SE don't

so swings and roundabouts which ever suits you situation

Hi,
I was with NFU for many many years. In that time I was unlucky to lose 3 horses, one was an emergency HD and two were on vet advice - Humane Grounds.

NFU paid out immediately for the emergency HD.

The two that were PTS on vet advice were a bit more tricky as they had brought in the ruling that any claim for 'Death of Horse' had to be done under BEVA guidelines ie must be 'Emergency Slaughter'.

Its a long story but I had a huge fight with NFU for one horse that was HD'd on humane grounds and I eventually won.

The second pony that was PTS on humane grounds was crippled with arthritis, he was still mobile but in great pain. NFU would only pay out for 'Death' if I left him until it was considered an emergency and lying collapsed and immobile. I couldn't do that to any animal. I never ever pursued the third claim.

Interesting to see 2 people moving from Petplan
Got horse on loan 1st Jan so taking out my first horse insurance (with Petplan) - already they have managed to annoy and confuse me in just 2 weeks!

I'm with KBIS and they have always been great with me. I have claimed a few times (various horses!) and never had a problem at all. They are also very competitive with their pricing. Would definately recommend. :)

My big horse was insured with NFU when he had to be admitted to horsepital with what turned out after a post-mortem to have been sub-acute grass sickness. He was operated on twice before having to be PTS. NFU paid up for everything they had agreed in the policy, very quickly and very sympathetically. My pony is now insured with them, and so is our house!

I still consider NFU to be one of the better insurance companies. I have a couple of friends that were with Pet Plan and had a terrible time. They have since taken their business elsewhere ;)

I've been with NFU for 10 years and have made various claims, including one for well over £5k for the treatment of ongoing lameness which they could have classed as one incident and refused to pay over the £5k vets fees I'm insured for, but they treated me extremely fairly. They also paid out very promptly when I had a horse pts because of a tumour. I'd told them during his treatment that the outcome may be pts and they were fine with that when the time came.

However, I had a recent claim that took them five months to pay out for. There were no queries about the actual claim but they've been so busy for the last year or so that they're outsourcing some of their claims to a third party who are taking forever to get things sorted.

Im with NFU, had just submitted a LOU claim for my mare with advanced ringbone. I got to the stables one morning and she had colic and from the state of her and her stable looked like she had been colicking all night :(:(
The vet came, did everything she could and said she needed surgery, although she wasnt hopeful. It was a difficult decision but I decided to PTS mainly as she was crippled and also as she didnt travel well. Vets phoned NFU to advise of the situation as it wasnt straight forward really with LOU claim then this and they were fantastic, said they would pay for surgery, PTS or surgery and then LOU if she came through it.
She was PTS and they paid cremation fees too up to about £300 I think.
Ive been with them years and have never had a problem.

Hiya can you Pm me about petplan, im looking at insurance for my daughters little pony and trying to sort out which one to use NFU are coming up quite expensive for him as hes only a little 11.2 hairy pony. Looing into petplan and AM trust so be interesting to find out about them. Thankyou.:)

I'm with KBIS, they have been brilliant, all my claims this year totalling about £3000 have been paid in less than a week from them getting the claim form. Really helpful people to talk to.

I've claimed over £10000 from NFU in the last 2 years (massive run of bad luck) incl loss of horse. They took a little while for you to actually receive the cheque, but always paid out with no qualms.

wow either you were lucky, or I was unlucky. I dealt with them a few years ago and I've never spoken to people more rude and obnoxious (I did complain!)

They also make you and your vet fill out a new claim form for every invoice you submit. A total pain and really hacks off your vet! Never had a problem with being paid out though...

I am insured with seib, and have been for many years, during that time I have had two large claims both paid very quickly.

Hapily have not lost a horse for many years when I did it was insured with that one that most do not dare name and barge pole comes up very frequently, the mare was found dead in a field after a thunder storm with a broken neck, it took me over a year for a payout after a lot of fighting and for which aparently I was very lucky to receive at all!
