Need to buy some of this ASAP to kill of nasties in him... can anyone tell me the right name for it, need to order online with next day delivery as he needs doing asap, no shops round here sell it :(

It is called Panacur Equine Guard, it is supposedly the only wormer that deals with encysted red worms. You can buy it online easily enough.

You might want to buy one specifically for Tape worms, but to be honest the most sensible thing is to start with a worm count, then decide which wormer to use.

I don't think it is any longer recognised as the only wormer to deal with encysted small redworm. I believe there's resistance to it and in fact the only one which definitely does work is Moxodectin (Pramox will also kill tapeworm) the only down side is that it can be so effective it can be a shock to the system if the animal is already unhealthy.

I'm sure more knowledgeable folk than me will confirm or deny this - Esther is very good on all matters relating to worming.

an egg count wont show tape or encysted redworm- either worm or get a blood test - for tape. Id do the 5 day course and follow up with a double dose of strongrid p (or equvalent such as single dose equimax in about 5 weeks after the 5 day course.) about 14 weeks after the last wormer then egg count - apart from the 2 mentioned, any other infections will show. Dont do before 14weeks or you risk false positive. I use abby diagnostics (google it) they explain the best way forward, theyre very helpful and cheap!

There's some back and forth in the science world with various studies showing Moxidectin (Equest) may not be as effective at treating encysted red worm as the manufacturers claim. Other studies show it is.

Panacur is Fenbendazole - Telmin is Menbendazole and often cheaper and is safe to use for the 5 day course. There is Fenbendazole/Menbendazole resistance across the UK, your local vet clinic should be able to tell you if resistance is prevalent in your area allowing you to treat accordingly.
