Urgent - dog requires new home

MIL has gone into care. SIL still lives in property that we are exhanging and completing on this Thursday (28th). Dog is an un nutured male Parson Jack Russell approx 5 years old. Never seen the vet (long story involving MIL's beliefs of all medical professions) not socialised and would not trust with children.

Suspect that there is only one solution as rescue centres are full (and have far easily rehomed dogs) but husband wants to try the rehoming route. My belief is that it is better to have PTS.

Dog is in Wareham, Dorset. Due to very difficult circumstances involving SIL dog could only be collected on Wednesday or Thursday.

Easy for me to say please don't judge but believe me this is only a small part of a horrendous year involving husband's side of the familly.

SIL who is currently in the property has severe mental health issues her self and is going into B&B until we can find her somewhere to rent so cannot take dog. Rest of us cannot take him either.

Not judging, and neither should others. I don't want him, but you never know, someone may, otherwise, if he has problems, then perhaps your final steps are correct.

I'll do what I can. MIL purchased the dog from Eddie Warren (Foxwarren Jack Russells). She was always a very difficult woman whose ways were at best different. Sadly the dog's exercise is a few minutes round the garden on a long lead. He has never been allowed to socialise with other dogs. No idea what he would be around children but would not like to guarantee that he would be OK given his history of being couped up.

He is not neglected in that he has been fed etc but would not have been given any jabs and wormer is likely to have been stuff from a supermarket. Due to mental capacity of both MIL and SIL it is not possible to find out any further details.
 
If you have Facebook plaster it over there, erm not sur eif you could try searching for animal fosterers in the area ?? Just suggestions.
 
Thank you to everyone for your replies. I am overwhelmed by the kindness of many on here.

Galaxy -he is from a breeder mentioned on this page. For reasons I do not wish to go into on an open forum that would not be the best solution.

somethings just occurred to me and I accept that only you will be very well aware of the difficult home environment which the dog concerned has endured.

A suggestion; Why not give it a go? Were I closer, we'd take him in for a couple of weeks, to see if we could find a balanced and sane dog, within. He may just be asking for a huge dose of normality. He may want to be treated like a dog, complete with the whole package deal!! You never know!!

Can you find someone near enough who will give you an assessment? Someone with a will to win? Perhaps?

You've been so open, that I reckon the boy deserves a chance, as do you.

Just wanted to sympathise with you at a difficult time. I found myself in a similar situation last year, my Mum passed away unexpectedly and we had to do something for her little dog. He was an 8 yr old nondescript mongrel, Mum was his third home and he was not properly socialised and def not trustworthy with small children. My bro and I had made the decision to PTS and were trying to pluck up the courage to book the appointment, the problem we had was that Sam had been such a loyal companion to my Mum in her last few years and we felt incredibly guilty about what we had planned but could not see another option, even if we could have found a rescue with places available he was not a dog that would have settled in kennels and we thought it was kinder to do the deed ourselves and not see him unhappy and stressed in kennels. Completely by chance my bro mentioned Sam to a colleague, a lady who worked from home, had 2 teenage boys who wanted a dog to have some fun with but she didnt really want a pup. They took Sam in on condition (set out by us) that if he didnt settle we would have him back and PTS. Almost 8 months on and Sam is a changed dog. His separation issues have all but gone (they have worked really hard on this, my Mum, bless her, just pandered to him whereas his new family have really worked with him), he is a much less anxious dog as he isnt the "man of the house", he knows his place now and is much happier for it. The point of this long waffle is to agree with Alec, it might not be possible, I admit we were very lucky, but just maybe, if you could find somewhere for him that knows all about his background they might be able to bring out a nicer dog. Although Sam was absolutely brilliant for my Mum, I would be the first to admit that she wasnt the ideal owner for him and this little chap may be the same. Good luck with sorting something out, I know how difficult it is. Trying to sort Sam out caused me as much heartache as dealing with Mums funeral. His new family do stay in touch and we have had some lovely updates.
 
why would it be a problem to go back to the breeder? won't they take him back?

Hope you find a suitable solution PTS would be a sad end for a 5 year old dog try the breed rescues if all else fails.

I also wanted to say that I agree with this lovely post from Alec.

OP, when you say the dog hasn't been socialised, do you mean that he shows aggression etc to other dogs, or simply that he hasn't met any so you don't know how he would be?

I can't say why on a public forum but suffice to say that I would not be able to sleep at night

Thank you both so much. Not socialised at all. MIL never believed in taking dogs for a walk. SIL has learnt behaviour.

Sadly we thought that SIL would be going to a property near my decent SIL which we were going to purchase but to cut a very long story very short SIL will now be going into rented accommodation (decided yesterday and we are exchanging and completing on Thursday) hence me not sorting out something much sooner.

Need to keep dog with SIL as long as possible due to her being in a very fragile mental state. Liklihood is that as soon as the dog is removed from her in whichever way she will do something to the propery. She is being told that the dog is going into boarding kennels until she can find somewhere that will take her and the dog. Reality is that without proper supervision she is unable to care for the dog's basic needs properly save for feeding and short walks round the garden on extended lead. Hate lying but sometimes the truth is not best said
 
Have you tried Many Tears? They are based in Wales but they have fosterers all over the country and take on difficult and quirky dogs. I can't speak highly enough of them and the work they do. They also have experienced fosterers who may be able to give him the chance he needs.

Agreed, though think that rehab is maybe best done at the HQ in Wales?

If someone can transport the dog to the Gatwick area then www.terrierrescue.co.uk will help.
