Hi Guys.
Just brought the horses in and Outrageous has a massively swollen eye and can only open it partially.
It was runny and *slightly* puffy about 3 hours ago, but didn't think too much off it as he and Boozle have been having hayfever type symptoms the past week.
The vet is on the way out but will be about an hour, anything I should be doing in the mean time?

Photo not great, and only one as he really hated the flash and the ones without the flash aren't visible.

The only thing I would put near an eye is warm water or warm salt water especially as you have the vet coming anyway. You could have a look for an insect bite. Sorry not much help really but dont think you really need to worry as vet is on his way

Then he will tell you what to do

Personally I wouldnt touch it. Let Vet see it first.

Is the blue of the cornea just as a result of the flash or does it look like that all the time? If so, you need the vet NOW as it could be the cornea has been damaged and this can be VERY dangerous. The vet will put flouroscene in the eye to check for ulcers or other damage to the cornea. Could be just a nasty bump that will go down without much help but if that's a cloudy cornea it could be superficial keratitis which is not for the faint hearted. My horse had this and it was the start of a valiant 6 month battle to save the eye. Fingers crossed it is just the flash of the camera. Would love to know how he does xxx

Thanks guys for your advice. I'm normalyl very level headed when it comes to first aid, but when eyes are concerned I just lose the plot a bit!

The vet didn't com eout in the end as he rang to speak to us before he left (had requested the call with the person who mans the out of hours phone line) and the vet said he'd come in the morning if it was still up, but not to worry otherwise.
As predicted by everyone it is fine this morning, phew!
Sunnymum - thankfully just the flash, how is your boy doing now?
