URGENT - getting burrs out of curly dogs coat..

Please help...

Lily the lakeland has got covered in burrs today, the huge ones that disintegrate when they touch something :(

Her whole chin and beard are black with them..

I've washed her because she rolled in the mud too, and now she is dry but the rake I normally use isn't getting them out at all :(

What do I do?

Will I have to cut them all out?

Pig oil - saturate her in it, outside is advisable and leave it for an hour. They should comb out easily then.

Goodness me that does sound good in theory but I don't have pig oil. Maybe hair conditioner would work?

After enlisting hubbys help I managed to get them half combed out (with the childs nit comb lol) and half cut out, so her beard is rather lopsided :(

Any tips for future tangles greatly appreciated :)

I reckon horse mane and tail spray would work and less messy than pig oil which is just baby oil without the scent, or I have used the cowboy magic in the tube for getting them out of horse mane which worked really well.

Sounds good to me :) Stupid me as I had kids hair detangle spray beside me in the bathroom :(

Mix conditioner and water in s spray bottle and spray on tangle work in with fingers and then gently comb through. Avoid anything with silicone in it (canter mane and tail contains silicone) as it tends to break the fur. For really matted tangles mikki make a small blade looks like a tear drop that will cut through the Matt allowing you to then use the comb.

You can get a soft slicker for sensitive dogs..it is great to go over the dog,then follow up with a metal comb( called greyhound comb)

To the person who suggested furniture polish...no,no ,no!!!

Oils will help objects slip out of the hair..eg using mayonnaise or peanut butter to get chewing gum out of hair...but on a more regular basis the detangling sprays( which contain silicone,which give the slippery factor,) are better,but should not be used every day or the hair can become brittle.
..there is also a medium and a hard slicker brush.

The hard slicker brush is only useful for very long,thick coats..it is a bit harsh for softer coats..
 
Oh I have a slicker then.... Silly me. I just didn't know what it was called :(

You will all laugh, but the best result I had last night was using a nit comb ;)

Because I had to wash her first, the burrs had got right down to her skin. Not just on the surface. Horrible things :(
