Urgent help needed! Any vets? :(

Hello. I haven't made a post here in a while but now I need help.
My cat, Kit has been at the vets yesterday because we think she got rat poisin. yesterday morning she was inside and was bearly able to walk. she then walked into a door! So up to the vets we went and she gave her some injectionse etc. The vet asked us to text her if Kit gets any worse throughout the day but she seemed to be getting better so we didnt bother.
Today we got up and she was on the chair sleeping. She had got worse over night. Now shes still on the chair with her tounge hanging out and shes breating quite slowely. Shes in a coma :/ I lifted her head up and it flopped down again. We rang the vet but shes away at the moment and said there is no point going to another vet because it doesnt seem like she has long to live.
I've been crying all morning since i found out.

Can anyone please try help me? :/ We have had her the last 7 years for my 7th birthday present. Im so worried about her and love her so much! In them last 7 years she has broken her leg, been in a coma for 3 days, got rat poisin once and now she has rat poisin again! Do ye think she can pull through it this time?

any vets out there wanting to help? Or someone who had a similar problem? Please :( thank you

You are sure she has been poisoned? No vet I know would have sent a cat/dog or other home if it had been poisoned. A) the toxin would need to be identied B) treated if possible and C) monitored or D) PTS to end its pain.
As for there being no point to calling another vet.....if it were my cat it would have seen another vet straight after seeing the 1st. If for nothing else to end the poor thing's suffering.

But she tested her eyes to see if she could see clearly and she could. Ive asked to bring her to the other vets but nope, mum wont bring her :/ Yesterday the vet said she isnt in any pain as she wasnt meowing or anything. She got rat poisin before and the vet gave her injections and she was ok again!

I do think you should get her to a vet pronto, but have you tried putting her somewhere cool and offering her some water? Be very careful because she could lash out if she is in pain or uncomfortable.
 
Sorry but you need to tell your mum that as the responsible adult, she needs to seek the correct care for the cat. Its ill. It needs to see a vet, whether its poisoned or not. Its clearly not getting any better.
If the cost is an issue, take it to the RSPCA who will have a vet either on site or in close proximity.

Shes in a coma so she cant drink or anything. My poor dog is looking up at her on the chair with his big sad eyes!
 
Comet&Joe - sorry to hear about your cat. The kindest thing would to take her to another vet and have her PTS.

My dear Alys cat drank Anti-freeze that a nasty neighbour put down to get rid of the cats in the area. She could have died a painful death but I took her to the vet who checked her over, gave me the verdict and I said goodbye to a dear sweet cat who was only three years old. She will be forever in my heart.

In which case she needs a vet now! Sorry I know you are only 14? But she needs treatment or PTS, it is cruel to keep her in a coma with no treatment, I don't know why your vet sent her home yesterday, but I am shocked that they did.
BTW do you mean she is sedated?

its ok lol. She said the cat wasnt bad enough to be kept in yesterday and its just the past few hours she has been like this. The vet rang 5 times in the last hour! to see if she was getting any better and she said to leave her for another while to see if she will come around to it because she did before. But this time i just dont think there is anything thats going to make her better.
 
Get your mum or dad to take her to another vet, any vet, now. I'm surprised at your vet saying they weren't available, mine would always suggest an alternative.
Your little cat needs to see someone as soon as possible.
 
Ok I am a vet nurse and feel I should also advise you this cat MUST see a vet right away , today this afternoon. If only to relieve her suffering, if not you are entering quite a grey area I woul rather not spell out on here regarding animal welfare and causing unnessesary suffering. This does not sound exactly like a posioning however if you vet suspected it then she ought to have kept the cat in for iv fluids and treatment. Sending it home to die is not acceptable. Find another vet this afternoon, do not delay and do the final favour you can do for your kitty after all the years she has given to you as aloving pet x

The vet did suggest another vet (sorry i forgot to include that) but she said there is no point. Yesterday she also said if a cat got rat poisin they would bleed to death. So I'm thinking shes nearly dead if there is no life in her :S
 
A cat in pain will not always make a noise.
If she is in a coma after poisoning then the chances are that her organs are shutting down.
I know its going to be hard-I have two cats of my own who mean the world to me-but I think the only thing to do is get her to the vet and have her pts.
 
Take the poor thing to another vet now. And I would never ever use the vet you took her too in the first instance again, even though the vet has called to check up they cannot possibly evaluate the cat further over the phone let alone administer more treatment.
 
Just want to point out that I'm not a vet, but I do have some experience with Warfarin, a drug commonly used in Rat poison.

It is also used in Humans to control coagulation after a thrombosis.

Warfarin causes the blood not to clot, hence why ingestion can cause internal bleeding aka bleeding to death, however, this does require quite a large dose i.e. 1mg/kg/day over 6 days. A cat averaging say 4.5kg's would have to consume about 26mgs to be lethal. Rat poison in one sitting won't have that high a content, it has to be accumulative.

That said, anything from say 5 to 15mg will make the animal very sick and above anything else, do serious damage to the liver, especially at Cat's liver, which reacts in different ways to most other animals.

If it was me, I would be trying to get my cat to consume foods that have a high Vitamin K1 content, this has a coagulation effect and reverses the effects of warfarin (and similar).

This include things like: spinach, Brussels sprouts, Swiss chard, green beans, asparagus, broccoli, kale and mustard greens. Very good sources include green peas and carrots.

If the cat comes around at all before going to the vet, try and puree the above and encourage it to eat it along with plenty of water. Many of the anti-toxins administered by vets wont do a great deal very quickly against warfarin type drugs.

Again, I'm not a vet, just know a few things about warfarin and similar things!
 
I daresay that the vet will have already given injectable vitamin K, but it sounds as if you poor cat needs either intensive care nursing with iv fluids, or to be allowed to be pts.

I really would do your best to get the poor thing to a vet, it isn't fair to leave an animal suffering.

The cat is in a coma, so it's not going to be possible to feed her.

Cometandjoe, so sorry that your cat is so bad, it's a tough thing to deal with at any age.

Please could posters bear in mind that they are talking to a 14 year old?
 
Our collie got hold of a bag of rat poison and was palying with it. She ingested some not alot and she was very ill. Had to stay at vets and only just pulled through.
It causes internal bleeding. Would suggest as others have said take to another vet.

From my limited knowledge, it's quite common for the K1 injection to be AmTech (from what I've been told) which reading some recent research, isn't as effective in cats as naturally ingested foods. ( I could have misunderstood that though).

I am surprised that the vet didn't keep the animal in; its almost neglectful.

I do hope the cat pulls through with no repercussions.
 
I appreciate the age of the OP but why post asking for urgent help and then when the majority of people suggest that the poor cat needs to be taken to another vet ASAP the advice is ignored? I can only hope she beats the odds and pulls through.
