i have just come back from to find my two ponies very depressed and quiet checked yearling over she sore and had dried blood round her bottom and her belly's hard and round went to get new pony in and shes all swollen round her jaw and is in pain no marks or wounds rang vet going to see if they can get some one out later very worried!!!

What do you mean the vet is going to come out later? I'd be wanting them ASAP. Otherwise no advice other than to keep a close eye on them but perhaps it was something they've eaten?

well 4 vets later and vets been looks like they both got colic and the yearling with the blood could be because shes got under the fence and got in to a ditch full of stanic water and its up set her (vets still bit worried) they have had bute but not eating the swelling is there glands are up really high and they got rasied heart beat got to keep a eye on them. The vet said give call monday if no better. there both stood feeling very sorry for them selfs

no we didnt a not kind of rescue shes 2 and never been handaled just needed good home. the glands could be from drinking the dirty water it just seams lots of if buts and may be's. im watching them now and keeping close eye

I have to say I don't like the sound of one bit of this. Here's how it seems with only the bit of info we've got: new pony, possibly totally new management and new grazing, possibly lush grazing, forced to drink stagnant (?) water coz nothing else in field (?), hard bellies, abnormally quiet, blood visible, rapid heartbeat, not eating, swollen glands. How come BOTH have suddenly got colic???? And if it IS colic as the vet seemed to think why on earth isn't something other than bute being done? My boy (all my fault) had an attack of gassy colic from lush grazing and he was very ill for a couple of hours. He had an injection of a gut relaxant and thank god it made an instant improvement. But bute for colic? Why haven't they been brought in off the field and stabled with hay and fresh water and checked eg 2-hourly through the night? Why vet not coming back Sunday morning? Why would there be blood from drinking stagnant water? What has caused the swollen glands? Do both horses have a high temperature? I'd be very worried. and gotta say it sounds like a half hearted effort by the vet.

I also agree, my mare had colic a few weeks back and there is no way i would have let my vet tell me to give her bute and he'd be back 2 days later.
Sorry but i think you need to get a second opinion and get the ponies out of where they are grazing, into a stable where you can monitor them.
I'd be quite worried, especially as they are both ill!!

another vet coming to day cuz the other didnt check the tempure which i was worried about ok to answer some questions, they are on rstricted grazzing because yearling will stuff her self, all ways have frest water but decided to have a play in a ditch which was fenced, we dont have a stable as the goat kicked the back of it out th other day. they where wormed last week. i am vry worried about them going to see if thy will at now

If the blood is coming out of it's backside then I think you should be prepared for the possibility that redworm are migrating, you could end up with a perforated gut.

Did you tell the vet that you wormed last week? Is it possible that this was the first time the new pony was wormed? Asking because this can cause colic if she has had a very heavy worm burden.

Also agree with others, the first vet sounds about as useful as a chocolate teapot

Firstly, what did you worm them with ?

At first, reading your post I thought possible strangles, but the bloated bellies and blood from the back end made me think Leptospirosis (hope Im wrong). Please tell us you didnt use Pramox on horses with an unknown worming history?

You need to get the vet out NOW.

I truely hope it works out for your horses, please let us know ?
