I am *hopefully* going to be having an interview for a live in job at a dressage yard up in Surry some point this week! Exciting!

Now heres the question. What do I wear? I have never been on an interview for a horsey job before, let alone one at quite a posh yard!
HELP!!Hehe

I'd go Uber smart, it is a job interview after all. If they want you to ride obviously I would bring riding stuff too but I guess they would tell you that in advance? I reckon smart jods, chaps, clean boots and a polo shirt for that side.

Solid colours, so plain blue/black/cream/beige jodhs. Personally i would say again, smart polo shirt - not one that is too heavily "branded" if you know what i mean.
Otherwise if you are not riding then smart blouse & either decent skirt or smart trousers, not jeans! Flat / practical shoes
If you make an effort then they will see that you would make the same effort for their horses & their business.

I wouldgo with black or dark coloured smart jods, gaiters and smart-ish yard boots, and a suitable smart-ish fitting polo shirt probably.

There are 2 big dressage yards I can think of in Surrey (!) - why not ring them and ask what the interview will consist of - i.e will they need to see you riding? and check the dress code. You will only score brownie points for thinking ahead.

So, if its Oldencraig, then all staff wear polo shirts with the logo, smart breeches and look tidy! If its Lisa McAlpine, then similiar standards would apply. Good luck!

Do you think grey jods with a navy seat would be ok? And i should have a navy polo shirt somewhere...i think...if not i can buy one cheaply from somewhere. And then my Ariat Bromonts...Only smart boots i have that dont kill my feet!

I would wear chino type trousers and something like a joules shirt or equivalent. It is a riding yard after all, high heels and skirts might be a bit out of place! Also you want to be able to interact with the horses and if you're wearing shirt and skirt you might feel uncomfortable.

To ride, I'd just wear black or cream jods, plain polo shirt. You can pick them up cheap as chips from places like new look. Then I'd clean my chaps and boots. And hat, gloves and body protector (if you wear one!) xxx

I think that if you are riding then you should probably aim to be at least as smart as the staff are, preferably a little smarter.

So I'd go for plain jodhs and a polo with clean polished boots, plain smart gloves etc. as a minimum or maybe go for shirt tie and tweed jacket if that is easier for you.

If they don't need to see you ride, I'd wear a trouser suit with sensible shoes, you want to look as smart as you would for an office job but also not look a plank if they show you round the yard or look impractical. So stillettos, low cut tops, tight skirts would be a no no, but a dark suit with low heeled court shoes and a shirt would be ok.

I've always been told that you should dress in the smartest attire you would wear whilst actually the job, for interview, sooo I guess you'd be best to avoid anything too flashy and go instead for a more classic look? Hair obviously neat and tidy, no make up or jewellery apart from perhaps a functional wrist watch; then perhaps a smart plain jacket with either a "sensible" skirt or trousers, and shoes/boots ditto, with plain blouse/shirt underneath.

Obviously you'd need to convey a sense of dependability and sensibility, plus a definate "equine" and/or "country" look would be advised.

I went for a similar interview on Sunday, maybe not quite 'posh' but a fairly serious dressage yard. I wore smart beige trousers, smart polo and clean, polished 'Dubarry-alikes'. (had jods and hat etc in my car just in case too) I was offered the job and am doing a 2-day trial starting tomorrow :D Good luck with yours!
