I need to fit the Saddle Company one again as his muscle tone has changed and sits quite low ! also my Isabelle needs a check !
There is only one person down the road from me who will do Saddle Company, but i watched her the other day fit a New SC one and advised them to use a pad, when its adjustable !
Debs - get yourself a prolite NOW - your saddle is sitting too low and needs to be lifted. It is too wide. However bearing in mind you are coming out of winter and into Spring I would expect Sky to put on more weight in the next couple of months and would not want as saddle narrowed or flocked up at this time of year as that will then restrict his muscle growth. It has to be a Prolite Wide Relief pad - not a front riser. and it needs to be a PROLITE not anyone eles pad as these allow the muscles to flex and expand.
I do fit with prolites on badly damaged horses to allow their backs to muscle up - if you fit to the shape the horse is then the horses cannot change shape so you can restrict future growth - using the prolite on a badly wasted horse will allow muscle growth into the saddle width and minimise the number of changes you have made to the saddle. It is a remedial solution but needs the saddler and the owner to stay in touch to decide how and when to alter the saddle.
Come down to Devon for a week - stay in our annexe, ride on Dartmoor, come XC schooling with me and Pongo and have a dressage lesson with my PSG instructor and I will do your saddle!!!!!!!!!
Mark Fisher in Wisbech is very good - usually booked up for weeks though! If you need a saddle altering, I'd ask Malan Goddard if she'll help you out. Karen French from Alfred French is good as well but will only sell you a new one not fit an old one. All their details are on the Master Saddlers website if you look it up on Google.
