Use a very long rope or lunge line. Clip it to the nearside of the headcoller, over the head, through the ring on the offside, under the top lip and through the bucle of the head coller back to your hand. Make sure that you have an ordinary rope on as well.

yea i guess that could work !!

Have you looked at Richard Maxwell's site? He has a training halter that comes with a DVD on how to use it which has been excellent with my IDxTB. She would not load for 4 years no matter what device we used. Then Max came out to her, worked with her for an afternoon, and she has loaded perfectly every time since. It is the best money I have ever spent getting him out...

When Troy had his operation at 5 weeks of age, Hannah had not been loaded for over 7 months so I was a bit worried that we would have an issue... There was no need! She went straight in as though she had been in it the day before and it took a lot of stress out of the whole process!

I cannot recommend him enough having owned Hannah for four years being unable to take her anywhere. If you would like more information on my experience, please feel free to PM me.

the thing is we can get places but then we cant get home - and yes we have tried everything and i mean everything and so have alot of other people !!

he isnt scared he is just stubborn and will go on when he has decided to !!

on saturday we got him on by everytime he reared and spun - this is by literally asking him to walk up the ramp (no force apart from leading him) we rode him for 5 mins and everytime he did it after that we rode him in half an hour he decided it was better to go on the lorry than be ridden !!

then we tried the above and this also worked !!

The owners have paid a lot of people to come out and none of it has worked !!

I also paid a lot of people to come out... none of which worked! I spent a lot of money trying to get her to load then stumbled (literally) across the Richard Maxwell forum and decided to give it one last attempt. I had Parelli people etc etc, and although they could get her in, they could not get her to stay in or to reload once she had gone in once.

Richard Maxwell must have loaded her over 100 times that day... he gave me the most valuable tip I have ever receieved and I have passed it on to people I know who have found it equally useful. As soon as you get somewhere (show, hack, just a trip around the block) unload, then reload straight away so they have it in the back of their mind that no matter what they are doing at the venue, they will be loading again.

I could write pages and pages about what Richard did with Hannah, I was completely converted that day because I had become incredibly cynical about this type of method due to the experiences I had already endured. But now I would not hesitate to get him out again (and have done for some guidance to handling my foal)

For a quick read through of the day he visited me, I wrote an article for a website I help out with: http://www.equi-talk.co.uk/Maxwell_article.htm
