Hi all,

Hoping someone may be able to offer some advice.

I own a gorgeous 16hh TB Mare who is now 19 (I've had her since she was 8).
Unfortunately, due to working long hours and my finances, I found that I was unable to keep her and, after a lot of thought, decided to put her on full, permanent loan.

Unfortunate, none of the loans have worjed out for various reasons and my mare has been moved to 6 yards over the course of 3 years, which upsets me as in the 8 years that she was with me, she was only eer at two different yards, one for three years and another for five.

I was given notice on Thursday that that lady who has Holly on loan was unable to keep her (due to no fault whasoever of Holly's may I add!) andthat I had until WEDNESDAY at the latest in which to find Holly a new home.

Due to the previous loaner feeding Holly dry hay (they were advised and it was in the contract that she had to be kept on soaked hay due to COPd, which had gone into remissions), she has now cost me an expensive vets bill and a two week course of sputulosin.

As I haven't had time to reference people that have been ringing me up about my mare and don't want to let her dissapear off into the country, yard unseen, I've looked at putting her onto a retirement livery yard until I can find a home.

This can only ever be a short term option as I cannot afford to keep her at all for more than a month due to finances.

I was wondering if anyone has any experience of the Essex Horse Retirement livery in Ingatestone, Essex?

Or if anyone has any advice they can give me or contacts they may know who are looking for a horse like my mare?

Many thanks,
Sian

Definitely try contacting the Veteran horse society's rehoming dept. I have my boy on permanent loan through them and his old owner sees him whenever she wants to. They were brilliant- helped us to find each other and took care of all the rehoming checks. They also have a centre where horses in need of urgent rehoming can go while they wait for new homes to come up. They're lovely to talk to and helpful.

Hi completebank,

Good to hear that you've had success with the Veteran Horse Society, that is something that I may have to look into.

Amyamy, unfortunately I couln'dt keep her at the yard as coulnd't afford it and had no way of getting there everday and they offer no livery facilities (very strange - do people never go away?!)

Luckily, I found a retrement livery yard which offers all year grazing, 200 acres for max of 30 horses, to which she has moved today.

Owners seem lovely and very knowledgeabe, so I'm hoping it all works out as poor mare has been moved so much the last couple of years after only ever being at 2 yards in 8 years with me!

Fingers crossed she is happy there and then I can look at finding a permanent loan home next year!

Thanks for your help
