Guys please help.....I need to get my hay tested as I have two very poorly horses (high GGT and liver enzymes recorded following blood tests). Been suggested by my vet that the hay contains mycotoxins.

Where do I go? How long does it take? What experiences have people had?

Thanks so much, really appreciate your help.

Have you experience of mycotoxins? Vet suggests they could be in my pasture but spoke to a agronomist today and they said that mycotoxins do not grow on the pasture but develop on grains. So more than likely the horses are becoming ill from mycotoxins in the hay. But have had bloods done before and after two different batches of hay from different suppliers and the GGT and liver enyzmes have both gone up.

Am so confused and just dont know what to do.

Sounds like you need talk to a lab to get it straight in your head.

Try ringing Newmarket Animal Health Trust in the morning - they are very helpful.

You can get mycotoxins in pasture, ryegrass staggers is caused by a mycotoxin.

In your shoes I'd be keeping off the grass for now and feeding a good quality branded haylage if you think the hay is an issue. Are they also bedded on straw? If so I'd change to shavings or similar to reduce any risk for now.
