I am in desperate need to find a new place for my 17hh Warmblood gelding. Unfortunately he is out on loan and has been for 5 months, I have owned Freddie for 7 years and had an up and down riding time with him as he's very tricky. He was diagnosed with arthritis 2 years ago in his neck and pelvis and his 'behaviour' while ridden was getting bad so I decided to put him out in loan as a happy hacker. I had reservations about the putting him out on loan as he can easily be misunderstood in the wrong hands! He went to someone who loves him loads but let's him get away with murder and impression I get he is allowed to just gallop everywhere which he has never ever done with me so don't think he will be that great to hack now! Should be ok with experienced rider. Due to the incompetence of the yard and people he has been asked to leave the yard with only three days notice due to breaking free from stable as he was left all on his own and being a very anxious horse this was very stupid and very obvious he was going to be stressed! I always stated when he went on loan he needed to be turned out with a group of 4 or more as he gets too attached otherwise! He was out with 7 others at my old yard where he was on part livery and was never a problem, you could even leave him on his own in field as he wasn't so attached! I am absouktely heartbroken as dont know what to do for the best :-( people have said to put him to sleep but I could not live with myself and don't think I could ever make that decision without being suicidal! He is only 13 and pretty healthy and fit and loves nothing more than to play in the field and eat all day and come in to a warm stable at night! Having always been stabled at night (summer he sometimes does night turn out and day stable) and being a Warmblood I don't think he would cope well out 24/7 and it pains me to think I don't seem to have much choice! Looked at retirement yards and found one but its miles away and seems lovely as they get a stable for really bad weather but how will i know he will go in stable?! As they say... What you don't know won't hurt you and I won't know as its so far away :-( I'm left with only two days to chose my horses future and don't know what to do for the best! Obviously financially its going to kill me so wondered if anyone had any suggestions... A few I thought of are below:

Companion where he can live with someone like a king and still come in in the winter... Happy to help with costs

DIY or assisted livery near me which is Bagshot, Surrey so Chobham would be ideal or Windlesham. Would consider Ascot and areas near here too.

Or as above but perhaps someone needs some help mucking out in mornings early in week or at weekends as could help out around my full time job and my other part time job on return for cheaper livery? I don't need facilities as wont be riding. May take him for hack once a week depending on how his behaviour is!

I'm so upset this has all happened today and don't have much time but want what's best for my lovely boy and my finances!

Can someone please help me? Even if its short term... I would be most grateful for any suggestions!

I also can teach and school horses as myself have trained with many top riders so could help anyone with schooling or training that's needed if someone can help me out.

Thanks very much

Rachael

Or also perhaps a small yard to rent say 2 stables and grazing as unfortunately I brought a youngster of 18 months old a month ago as i was pretty sure he was all settled and had a home for life so I could have them both together. The baby is at my cousins field on grass livery which is in Farnham so not that local and the field isn't ideal for Fred as lots of horses in one field and its right near a road and because Fred has never lived out I don't want to risk him going there!

Thanks x

There is a place in Bisley that is supposed to be excellent. Grass livery with ad lib hay in the autumn/winter and large open barns for them to shelter in.
I will try and find the link but you could search grass livery Bisley.
Hope you find somewhere. There is also a place in Byfleet which is supposed to be very good and the lady there is called Anne I believe and she advertises in Buttons and Chobham Rider sometimes.

The surrey grazing website is the one in Bisley. I don't have the number for the one in Byfleet but she has def advertised in Chobham Rider window and also in Buttons in the past. The website for surrey grazing has contact details. Good luck.

Rachael,

The grass livery place in Bisley is Hill Place Farm - I looked there for my elderly pony but they don't allow electric fencing - horses live as one herd and my boy is laminitis susceptible so wasn't suitable. BUT saying that, the yard is great, large open barn in the middle of the winter paddock for the horses to shelter in, she feeds/hays/poo picks for you (will even soak hay if needed) and summer grazing plentiful! I 'think' her name's Linda and she's absolutely lovely - it's not cheap but pretty much everything is included!

Hope that helps!
