URGENT not dog but deer

Driving to the yard at 6.30 this am Jack and I saw a deer in the road that was still alive. We stopped and moved him onto the verge and then called the police. They said they would send someone - half an hour later no sign to we had to leave to do the horses but we moved him high onto the bank to be safer. Had lots of cuts and was bleeding from his mouth but quite feisty but obviously fairly badly injured as couldn't stand. So we covered him with a blanket and left. 35 mins later we drove back and the poor thing was still there. I have phoned the police again he assured me it was being dealt with via the RSPCA (HUH!) but I'm worried when I drive along there in a while he will still be there. What can I do

Can you get an emergency vet to come out? Most of them treat wildlife for nothing. Or contact the RSPCA yourself and tell them you'll contact the papers if they don't attend! Do you know a farmer that will shoot it? The poor thing will probably be PTS anyway.
 
Have you a local hunt - if it's not been dealt with by now? Would be very surprised if their staff would not come out and dispatch it, they're used to being called out for that type of thing. Well done you though for caring enough to try to help, many others wouldn't have put themselves out.
I'd also give the police a bit of my mind too let alone the useless RSPCA, they should be ashamed to have Royal in their title!

I went back with my OH and the poor thing was still alive at 9.30 and no-one had been, so I contacted my vet (RVC) and the farm vet came straight away and gave an injection. I feel so angry that it suffered for all that time the RVC vet was really angry and refused to charge me and thanked me for calling him. I stroked him until he died, it was sad

thats terrible...we would always go out straight away if a wild animal had been hit at the vets I worked at. The police should have contacted the local vets to do that for you. RSPCA would prob take ages...never heard very good things about them unfortunately!
Poor thing....at least you were kind enough to help it.

Glad you the poor thing isn't in pain anymore... damned RSPCA - claim to care yet will keep an animal waiting like that!!

The RSPCA turned up after the vet and offered to inject into its stomach, seeing as it obviously had internal injuries we said er no thanks. Then the knacker turned up sent by the police - only 5 hours after I'd rung and requested him! When I spoke to the RSPCA at 9.30 they told me to calm down and stop shouting. I told them if they would get someone to come and put an animal to sleep after 7 hours of suffering then I would stop shouting

I'm not normally that brave! My OH will be writing to them to complain, they won't get off lightly. Oh and the police claimed they had been and 'looked at it' earlier.
 
What a bloody disgrace!!! Well done for trying so hard to get the poor animal seen to, and well done for shouting and following it up as well.
 
I agree it is disgraceful to let an animal suffer for that long.
You can bet your life if it was a kiddy chalking on the pavement or playing with a waterpistol the police would have sorted it out PDQ!
