Hey guys, i'm not going to go in to the story as it is very upsetting but i'm just wondering if vets keep records of the dogs which they pts????
If anyone could help please reply asap. Many thanks, Alex.

Not prying...but a bit confused???
Do you think the dog has already been pts and your trying to confirm it?

If so, at the practice mine are at when the dog is pts the name is kept on record unless someone asks for it to be removed. I had to ask them to remove Mums cat as she kept getting letters reminding her of vacs.
If the dog was microchipped you could contact the company and see if they have been informed.
However, to do all this you will need more than the dogs name. You will probably need the owners details and Data Protection and all that jazz will make finding out quite hard.

Good Luck though,

As Woopsii said, I am a bit confused about the situation but I would think that vets do keep details of dogs they PTS. One of ours was PTS many years ago afte he'd escaped out of the house and sadly got knocked down. We didn't know he'd been knocked down but after searching for him and contacting local rescues/vets etc we found a dog fitting his description had been PTS not that long aftert he'd escaped so we could only think that must have been him. This was before the days of microchipping and unfortunately said dod did not have his collar and tag on at the time he legged it!

Hi guys, I'm ever so sorry to be so short with you. The dog IS OWNED by me, but however was being looked after by a 'friend' long term as him and the other dog we had started fighting so could no longer be kept together. The arrangement was made when the dog was passed over that he will always remain in my ownership, and she was just 'looking after' him for me, also that if I ever came to get him back that wouldn't be a problem what so ever. Now things have turned complicated a year down the line, got a message tonight from a friend of a friend of the girl that was looking after him saying that the dog has 'died'.. Apparently the girl who was looking after him has changed her number but wanted to contact us to explain what has happened so instead left her number with the friend that told us to pass it on for us to ring her. Tried ringing her as soon as I found out and her phone is turned off. Worst part is that I've been told he died over a week ago?! Apparently the reason for his death is that 'half of his skull was missing, he had a tumour and cancer in the foot and somewhere else.' (He was a severe rescue case before i got him however was not passed through a rescue centre). The dog was perfectly healthy with no problems at all and has had regular vet checks which none of this was picked up on INCLUDING the missing half of his skull.. Also another friend of this girl (a dog breeder) aged this dog at no older than 3 years old, however I have owned him for 5 years and he was an adult dog when I was given him??? I'm ever so sorry that this is so confusing.. Basically if I can't get hold of the girl tomorrow morning I will be ringing around local vets practices to find out if he HAS been pts or not. The girl that had the dog has recently had her children removed from her care due to drug abuse and domestic violence between the parents, so the dog MAY have been taken out of her care and this is just a cover up?? I'm so upset and confused right now. Sorry for the essay and I hope you're able to understand what's happened xx

Well you could go around local vets with the pics, and hopefully, if it's a load of bull and if he does turn up then you have a claim on ownership.

I have a load of pics and a video on my phone so that will be coming with me anyway! I really hope it is bull, please send good vibes and wish me luck as he is a lovely dog and I was so gutted to have to send him to this girl or her to look after him :( I will update tomorrow and let you know the outcome :( xx

If he is microchipped in your name could you flag him as stolen? It might make enquiring at vets and rescues easier if he's marked as being stolen under his microchip and it's in your name and you have photos etc? Not entirely sure how it works though so sorry if that's no help. I'd be going mental if I was in your situation :(

Thank you very much everyone, yeah I have been thinking about reporting him as stolen as technically he is?! By being my dog yet the girl he was being looked after by no longer has him in her care. I can't tell you how much all of you have been such a help. Fingers and toes crossed for tomorrow, please pray he is safe and well and hasn't been pts.. He is loved by many many people :( Thanks again, I'll let you all know how it goes xx

Agree with above, report him stolen/missing as it might mean he comes back to you.

The missing skull, tumours, cancer...I dunno, seems a bit far fetched to me?? Sounds like someone's trying to BS you. Sorry if that's rather blunt :o

Hope he is safe and well, and hope you find him x

Quick update so far today, been around all the local vets practices today and he hasn't been taken to any of them. Off round to where he was being kept now to see if we can find out where he is.. A few possibilities though, he could have died in his sleep at her house and she's buried him? She's sold him for drug money? Or he's got out and she's scared to tell us the truth.. I'll update you again later and let you all know if we find him. Many thanks, Alex xx
