There are a few people looking on the BD forum and I have posted a link to this - you should also contact the Foaling Bank who will be able to put you in touch with an orphaned foal - good luck hope someone can make use of the mare after her tragic loss!!

Whilst I'm not to sure how you had or are planning this, generally, the best plan is to take the mare to the foal, and not the other way around.

Alec.

I am just helping a friend and am passing any numbers on I get. how they do it is up to the mare and foal owners to decide!

This is exactly what we intended with our 2 week old orphan foal - unfortunately, the mare offered here cannot travel from her home in Manchester as she becomes stressy - I felt to travel a 2 week old foal from Fife to Manchester was too much, so sadly had to pass on this one.

What would others feel was a reasonable distance to travel a foal at that age? Obviously, one concern would be if the fostering was unsuccessful, the foal would have to come all the way back again - much less hassle for the mare to do the trip.

Im not that clued up on stuff like this and hope I never have to. I think its difficult either way. I think you have to do whats best for your mare /foal.
