Sol has been acting really strange over the last few days , but its got worse today , the YM rang to ask whether we had her vetted when we bought her and if we did , did they pick up on anything to do with her eyesight

The last few days she won't graze in the field she just stands at the bottom and paces the fence .

Her eye has gone patchy red but there is no discharge

She has become very nervy and looking for me constantly and basically walks and leans into me when being led .

So anybody experience these symptoms ?
Please help i'm so worried about her now and might ring the vet and beg him to come out tonight

if her actual eyeball is patchy red then definitely get the vet urgently... as in now, tonight. please.
at the very least i'd ring the vet now to discuss it.
the only time i've seen red inside the eye was a burst cataract, the eyeball looked as if it was filled with blood.

Did you have her vetted? Anything serious long term would have been picked up hopefully. Our instructors horse rolled and got something in his eye and it came up as you have described, definately get your vet to look but try not to panic

YEP she was vetted , nothing picked up . 6 months ago she was seen by the vet when she had Conjunctivtus and was put in dark room etc. and nothing was found .
YM really panicked me but he's very fussy with eyes as his OH horse is being PTS on monday because of his eyes
frown.gif

He told me to wait till tomorrow but I can't stop panicking

Things happen over time - if it's a while since she was vetted, she could have got a little piece of grit or similar in her eye.
When you say 'he told me to wait till tomorrow' do you mean your vet or the YM?

Yard Manager said to observe her tonight and then if its worse tommorow to ring the vet . I've just panicked myself to what it could be , and things I never pick up on , I am and think oh god that because of ....

serious! if they were like this with me they wouldnt be standing let alone speaking!

Why don't you give your vet a ring and see what he thinks? I tend to agree with the people saying its best not to leave any problem with eyes. Hopefully its just a scratch but would put your mind at rest.

Don't I have lovely 'friends'

Expecially as its a sensitive issue ATM as we do have a horse that IS going blind and is being PTS on Monday

If she is that uncomfy that she wont eat inthe field then it sounds like she needs some attention tonight.

It may be that something has gone in and scratched or irritated it and that can be so painfull.

Ignore the liveries they sound horrid but dont worry Im sure she isnt going blind but I would be calling the vet tonight even if all he does is give you something to make her feel more comfortable.

Well, without being rude, I'd ignore your YM, and phone your vet tonight, as an emergency. You can't really take chances with eyeballs...they don't come with spares
frown.gif

If you describe the symptoms, and your vet says it'll wait til the morning, then you can relax tonight. If not, and he wants to come out - then he must think your horse needs treatment.
Either way, it'll put an end to your worrying.
Oh, and spike the b1tches in the eye with a hoofpick tomorrow.

You dont have to necessarily call the vet out, just phone emergancy vet and ask what they think.

)

No , the answer machine just said to leave name and number after I pressed a few button directing me too it .... I said it was an emergency and it tried to put me through and then it said it was busy so I left a message asking them to ring me back

That will be the on-call vet then, probably already taking a call. I'm sure they will call you back and you can explain

Check is there is any swelling around the eye and perhaps if you touch it, is it sore? If the eye is weeping then you could clean it with cotton wool soaked in salt water but not much point if nothing is coming out. Hope you see some improvement.

I agree with everyone else, that ideally I would want the vet to come, but if it is the white bit round the eye that is red, then that sounds like either an irritation from grit/dirt, or possibly conjunctivitis, both of which are uncomfortable for the horse, but not as desperate as if the dark bit of the eyeball is a funny colour, which could be something more serious like uveitis (sp?) or a punctured cornea.

Can you see exactly which bit it is? As you can't now do anything, just thought that might help you sleep better tonight (or not...)
