Hi,
Saddle fitter out tomorrow to check saddle as not sure its fitting him anymore.
he currently has a stubben juventus 17 inch size 30.
I want to compete up to 1.30 so I need something I can grow into.
Im 5'4'' and 9.5 stone if that helps.
The saddler coming out is an Albion specialist but just dont really fancy them but dont have much of a choice really so am open to options.
Want something secure with a deep seat and big knee rolls etc.
Would prefer someting tan coloured if possible but not essential- do albion even do that colour?!!
Any shouts for prestige or pessoa at all?
whats the best albion jump saddle?
thanks

Actually would never recommend a make of saddle. And would never put any of those makes near my horse. Why - because I know they don't fit.
My saddles are made to measure by my walsall saddler, I ask for the style I want and he gets the appropriate tree for my horse, and then makes a saddle to my horses template.
if you don;t want an albion, then don;t get an albion fitter out. What you actually want is a decent saddler who is not committed to one make who will try all sorts of styles, tree shapes and panel sizes on your horse, and decide which is the one that fits best. Then once he has a selection of saddles that actually fit the horse your needs come in to play, So you then have to decide which of the well fitting saddles actually suits you.

I'd agree with this. If they haven't got an account with a saddle manufacturing company, they don't supply their saddles. This is a major issue if they saddles they do stock and can get don't fit your horse.

BUT, surely a saddle-fitter these days has trained to such a degree and has done so because they go by the ethic that the saddle should fit the horse that they wouldn't try to sell you a saddle they stock nor advise you incorrectly if the one you currently have does actually fit?

I would try a make of saddle as long as the reputation of the tree fit and quality was sound. I'm not a follower of fashion, but think the likes of Albion (not a make I like) Barnsby and Ideal have been at it long enough to know what they are doing.

Brighteyes, i would love to think that some saddle fittes had the horses best interest at heart BUT....... the reason why saddle fitters are committed to one make is because of the profit they can make from selling that saddle. Albion saddles command a huge return for a saddle fitter - hence they are a popular make to sell. So you tend to find many many horses suffer with an Albion saddle cos the fitter wants to make money. even if you can find an independent fitter - you then have to find an ethical on - they do exist but you have to dredge through some serious pondlife to find them. Anyone who recommends a particular make without seeing your horse is not worth having out. And anyone hwo brings just one make of saddle is seriously suspect. And for what its worth - the quality of training from the Society of Master Saddlers is extremely poor. Ethical selling is not mentioned, filling in paperwork so they are not sued is key. And Master saddlers are not trained to fit saddles - just to make them, and just because the company has a Master Saddler working there does not mean that your saddle was made by a master saddler - it could have been made by a trainees on a work placement!!

Firstly, I'd agree with whichever fits best, and secondly, it's about personal preference.

I adore Albions and loathe Prestige saddles, and know plenty of people who are the other way around. It's entirely personal to you and your horse.

I recently tried an Albion Selecta (albeit with dressage panels mind you), which I was considering buying from a friend and I have to say it was THE most uncomfortable saddle I have ever ridden in! The seat was rock hard (not good for lady bits :o) and the stirrup bars were too far forward etc etc...altogether it was not good and I said no, thanks.
However, she loved it so I think it totally depends on the individual. You have to consider what is best for your horse primarily, then whichever you are most comfortable in. Maybe try a few and see which one your horse goes best in and you are happy with.

I love my pessoa :). I have seen it tan colour as well.
I agree with everyone saying get the saddle which fits but unfortunantly I can't afford to get a saddle 'made' for me, and also the OP is getting a saddle fitter to see her horse so obviously cares about fit. Everyone has PP about what makes they like I suppose. Also I don't know said 'I know none of those saddle will fit..' How on earth??? Are you physic? I am good but not that good!
Also if I am paying a few thousand pounds for a saddle I want it any dam colour I want!!
