Had local saddler out on Fri to sort out new horse (who she has fitted saddles for before) and I asked whether we should get a new one - perhaps Thorogood, Bates or Wintec seeing as he's a baby and will change shape. She said no - my saddle was fine and she just needed to readjust the flocking. All fine so we thought.

Just took him cubbing for an hour and brought him home and he has 2 thumb size swellings on either side at where the lowest part of the panel would be if that makes sense. She said to ride him in Mattes half numnah with saddle which I've done.

What would cause this? Its obviously pressure but would it be the saddle being too tight, flocking a bit wonky, the end of the half numnah pressing in (i.e bottom of sheepskin bit)? Any ideas?

And also can anyone recommend a saddler in the Dorset area or who would travel to Dorset or I could travel to that is failsafe and never gets it wrong. I never trust saddlers because they always seem to get it wrong so need someone I can trust implicitly. Horse is low withered, straight backed 4 1/2 year old.

Ouch.

I don't know if they'd travel that far, but I swear by Bridlepath International

After trying so many saddlers and not being at all happy with any of them, I have one now that I trust implicitly.

Ditto the above - its worth a call to Laura, see if she can go that far, or arrange a half way point or something?

I have a croup high, no withered mare, and Laura and her Dad (I always forget his name) sorted me out, and we are both happy.
