Anyone have experience of this?

My female dobie who will soon be 8 has in the last few days started weeing in her bed. She doesn't appear to be drinking anymore, gets the same amount of walks etc.

She's never been messy in the house and is finding it quite distressing.

Replaced her bed yesterday with a duvet and it was soaked mid morning even though she had been out. Just been in kitchen and new bed i got today is soaked too.

I guess this is the first sign she is getting old :( off to vets Monday of course but wondered if the drugs they use are successful?

would personally be checking for a urinary tract infection first, if it is not this then propalin works very well for bitches with urinary incontinence

I guess the vet will check all that and I will get a urine sample Monday morning before I take her in. Good to hear that propalin works well.

Update. Just back from a long walk and she must have squatted about 30 times but can't pee :(

Can this wait til tomorrow morning or does she need vets today?

She needs to be seen today. It may be that she had a urinary infection and she's passing very small amounts but if you don't think she's passing anything you must call vet.

It definately isn't incontinence xx

She has managed to go now thank god but obviously does have an infection of some kind. So off to vet first thing in the morning. It's bizarre how she went from not being able to hold it and literally peeing on her bed whilst lying down to not being able to go at all.

Copperpot - it may be a bladder stone that is periodically obstructing her exit from her bladder. Get her checked tomorrow as you won't know what it is until she's examined.

Take a urine sample tomorrow morning, collect in a shallow container so you can just pop it under her when she squats and store in fridge until you go to vet. Don't use anything that's had anything sugary in it, ie jam or honey as will elevate glucose levels xxx

Thanks to both of you for the advice. I hope she can "go" in the morning so I can get a sample. After lots of googling I did think maybe bladder stones. I have a small shallow dish at the ready for tomorrow morning! I think she is wondering why I am constantly following her around the garden :)

Just got blood test results back and she does have a UTI. Kidney function is slightly degenerated, they said normal dogs are a 7 and she is an 11 but to be expected for her age. She's had antibiotic injection and a pain killer and I have 5 days worth of tablets to clear it up.
