Have just got a little 14h pony on trial for 2 months for my 11 yr old cousin. Since we first brought him home last week we have noticed that quite often he stands around with just a bit of his willy poking out, maybe about an inch or so hanging down. he also will stop to do a wee while out hacking on grass not on the road. Is this normal? Everything looks normal, he's not weeing all the time & his stable isn't drenched or anything. Last night when we were hacking, he stopped and wee'd then on the way home we stopped and let them have a little munch of grass & he did a little bit more. He's very alert and happy in himself & has a very shiny coat.. He's got some muscle tightness in his back and along the girth line & it's clear that he has been very hand ridden, he holds his head very high and in which we began working on while hacking last night. He's lacking some top line and muscle on his bum. Any info would be great. Thanks

My boy wee's a few times out on hacks too. Spoken to my vet last time she came out and she said he was fine. He wasn't drinking lots of water in the stable and had no other symptoms. Is your pony drinking a lot? Does he dribble or have a big wee? And does he look as though he is struggling when he wee's. If no then it's probably normal for him.

No there's nothing out of the ordinary, not drinking a lot, about 1/4-1/2 a large bucket at night, not struggling to wee nothing just something I'm not used to.

I have found fell ponies have there Willy out slightly more then other breeds I was worried at first but after looking at lots of others and vet all is normal so I would say breed could have a bit to do with his Willy slightly less tucked in

Most horses will urinate on grass as doing so on concrete will create splashback which a lot of horses don't like...understandably :)

Sounds like that is normal for him, every horse is different. My old gelding used to hold it in during the ride and only go when I put him back in his stable and put bedding down.

I used to have a favourite hack and my horse used to stop for a very long pee at his favourite peeing spot, overlooking a cemetery. He used to stare around curiously while he peed. So on weekends I'd be perched there on my staring horse, apparently ogling the mourners visiting the graves below. I often wonder what they thought! But yes, as other have said, horses are as individual as people. Your boy sounds a little treasure x
