I am after a homemade urine deodorizer, or a good commercial one, to try to encourage a puppy not to wee indoors, any ideas? I understand floor cleaners can contain ammonia which can encourage weeing.

Pets at Home sell a spray called Wash and Get Off (think that's what it's called, the have a section in the shop). It cleans the area and removes the smell. You just spray it on then give it a rub with kitchen roll or something. Worked beautifully for us and was fine on our carpet.

Sorry I can't help, I've searched on the UK pet shops that I have bookmarked, but they don't seem to sell the Swedish product that I and many other dog and cat owning Swedes likes, Piss Off. Pointless to mention but it is biodegradable, you can get it with lavender, citrus, eucalyptus, summer meadow or au naturel scent and you can either spray it directly on where the accident have been or if it is something washable, you can use it instead of washing powder.

Though at one Swedish site, it says it is labeled with "Der Grüne punkt" in Germany, so I presume that it is sold in Germany, but as said, not in the UK as far as I can find.

Pity, because when Jonna had puppies, soon almost two years ago *sigh* time flies, they certainly didn't seem to smell any remaining scent from earlier accidents and never seemed to pee on the exact same spot, not even on the little carpet next to my mother's bed in the summer house. I think they had at least two, but maybe three, accidents on it and I know it was in different corners of it. After that I had cleaned it with Piss Off, neither the dogs or cats, seemed to pay any particular interest to the spot that had recently been peed on.

Biological laundry detergent solution. Kills the bacteria that creates the smell. I add a few drops of lavender oil to a warm solution and mop the area. Works a treat. Ditto spray or wash down pathways and walls to get rid of outdoor odours.

Thanks everyone, I have found a suggestion of biological washing detergent and white wine vinegar, so will try that and look into the pets at home one, shame about Piss off, sounds a good product.
I think she is a bit lazy in the house tracing department, and will often give no indication before weeing, literally walking up the room and squatting to wee as she walks.

QR - do you still get the problems with dirt attracting to the site of the urine when you use the Pets at Home product? I am a complete dinosaur and use bleach and water still, cleans the place but then dirt is attracted to that area of the carpet and I end up hiring a carpet cleaner to get rid of it :(

The Pets at Home product (wich I'm sure is called Wash and Get off), doesn't really get your crapet that more wet, so I haven't found any marks on my carpet where I used it. Not that carpet was in good condition before that anyway, but I found the product really good. Used it at my in laws on their new carpet (!!oops!!) and you would have never known that I used it.
